For the price, the Hotel Safir is a great value. It is not a 5 star resort and if that's what you're looking for, you'll be disappointed, but it is a comfortable, centrally located, small hotel with tremendous touches that really set it apart.
Others have commented on the location, but it is just feet from a tram stop and old town area (which has dozens of restaurants), and is very close to the Tip Top, a wonderful place for an inexpensive dessert. It's also very close to a grocery store, bakery, and wine shop. We felt safe and comfortable everywhere in Sarajevo and in Bosnia, but especially around the Hotel Safir. For those taking a tour through Sarajevo Funky Tours -- and you should! -- it is very close to their office as well.
We really appreciated the free beverages in the room refrigerator -- coming "home" at the end of the day to cold water, juice, and other beverages was a really nice bonus. The free laundry also made the entire trip easier. Breakfast was good.
Others have commented on some ways in which the hotel could be improved. They're right -- it could be in a few ways. But when you consider the price you are paying and look at other hotels in Sarajevo -- I've stayed at three, including a second on this trip -- the Hotel Safir is a true gem. Of the three I've stayed at, the Hotel Safir is my strong recommendation in Sarajevo.
