I love the view and location of the hotel, excellent The staff are very helpful and as i would not consider my self a french speaker there was enough staff speaking English to not have any issues, staff excellent.
I stayed in a Bungalow and it was excellent (would have been perfect if the panorama window would have been clean so I could see out nicely ) The Bungalow being of wood gives a nice feeling and the rooms have a nice character far from the stale normal hotels.
I had a bit of a problem with the wifi internet at first but the staff was very helpful in fixing the issue. Yes internet is expensive but it was to be expected as the service does not cater for too many within the country.
Being a photography crazy guy i wanted to take a photo of the nice sunsets you can get there. The hotel has no view for that as the sun sets on the side where the owner lives with no access. (there is a very nice thatched roof hut that otherwise would be perfect place.)
There is always security around day and night moving around so would never expect any issues of that nature.
Now the things that pull the rating down to average. The restaurant. Again the staff is very friendly and do their best but probably need more training.
1. Ordered a French whitewine. The waiter brought it, opens it and ask me to taste it. I inform him it has to be cooled first.. he insist i taste the wine then will get the ice bucket... hmmm. ofcourse the wine tasted..... warm.
2. I ordered the 15,000 seafood platter. Im on an island i saw them fishing in the morning within the premises... The lobster - stale, came from fridge or freezer, the octopus -stale from fridge or freezer, tuna - salty and stale. Atleast the french fries where ... fresh. Had the onion soup as starter but also that was - stale not fresh. i could not even finish half the plate.
3. Breakfast .hmmm made my salad with hmm not so fresh tomatoes and lettuce but atleast the feta cheese was nice. the bread is nice and fresh and they cook eggs to order but the omelettes are not close to 4 star hotel style. Did not even try the baked beans because they looked too sad.. I got capuccino as coffee which was nice of them but i dont know where the strange taste came from. The beans or the machine.
4. second night i had a lebanese salad which was ok. and a pizza that was supposed to be the fajita chicken and hot chilly. maybe I got the wrong one coz no chilies was near it.
For the restaurant they need to shape up seriously. I dont buy the this is Comoros and one has to lower standard. I ate at a takeaway pizza place down town and had the nicest freshest fish brochettes one can find. Its all about attitude. The restaurant had atleast 50 guests a night while I was there so there is enough market for it to be more than basic. cut down on the items on menu and make it fresh. and in Anjouan I was the only guest in a hotel of 50 rooms and i had the freshest lobster I could ask for.
Finally to take a taxi ride to airport costs 20 euro.. ofcourse for tourists. that fine and it was charged to my roombill but then im put in a buss with 5 other people..... that is not on.. coming from the airport i paid 20 euro as tourist in a taxi. Thus the hotel is milking money for no good reason on such a thing.
