“Wonderful relaxing experience!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2009

My husband and I stayed at Taaroa Lodge for two nights before embarking on a cruise. We stayed in one of the bungalows and could not have been more happy with the place, especially given the rate. The bungalow had a bed, a sofa, a microwave, a small fridge, a coffee maker, and a small bathroom. We spent quite a bit of time just sitting out on the bungalow's lanai enjoying the view and relaxing. The Ritz it was not--no air conditioning, but with the ceiling fan we stayed plenty cool at night and with the ocean breeze and a lagoon to swim in, we stayed plenty cool during the day.

We also were able to walk up the road a little ways to a park that had a restaurant--another nice spot for a glass of wine and watching the sunset. There is also a burger shack right next to the lodge's driveway, and a little market up the street.

The other folks staying at the lodge were a nice couple from the Netherlands who were just starting a 3-month vacation across the South Pacific, which made for great conversation. The owner, Ralph, was also a really nice guy and he talked to us a bit about surfing. Booking with him was pretty easy and he was great about responding to e-mails.

Every morning a baguette would appear on our lanai, and there were always fresh bananas hanging from the trees for us to much on, and plenty of supplies to make coffee. That and a great view and your loved one, what more could you need? My husband and I agreed that if we ever make it back to Tahiti, we'll go back there to stay again.

I stayed here on Tahiti and I thought it was great, the bed in the dorm was comfortable and kitchen facilities were provided and directions were provided to the local facilities and the bus service. The showers also worked well.

They also were big fans of watersports and gave you free snorkelling gear and sea kyaks.

Overall the accommodation was pretty good value given its location on Tahiti. It is located a bit far outside Papeete, but given that Papeete isn't particularly interesting that isn't a big issue. It is fairly close to the Tahiti museum. Tours of the island were also recommended.

There were some minor issues, they didn't arrive early enough for the airport pickup so I had to wait around and a name board could have been used.

We stayed here in February for a week and what an amazing place to stay. I am not a tourist but a World traveller and I know a Gem when I see one. Ralph has a great place here. We stayed in one of the Casitas which was so clean and comfortable. If I was travelling alone this is where I would stay because it is so safe. Ralph and Diane are very sincere, honest beautiful people, meeting them was one of the highlites of our trip. I love their little bunny Canelle, she is always around and loves people. We will return to Taaroa Lodge, next time we will stay longer. You have to stay here to understand.

The place is amazing, the beach upfront is simply one of the most beautiful things I ever seen and Ralph and Diane (the owners) make you feel home, while I was there, we had BBQs, we learned about Tahiti and Ralph took us to a dive in Moorea that was the best ever.

  • Liked — Meet new people from all over the world.
  • Disliked — The distance from city center and facilities, but the beach location compensates.
