“Good hotel for stop over before going to Moorea, nice restaurant, location is both ideal and terrible.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

Friendly staff, clean rooms with everything you need. Was fine for our one night stop overs either side of going to moorea.

The restaurant food was really good and the virgin daiquiri was incredible.

The hotels biggest positive is also its biggest negative. It is so close to the ferry wharf and airport that it is perfect for stop overs, however this also puts it in the middle of dirty, smelly, busy papaeete streets with incredibly bad road noise on the Saturday (scooters and bikes hooning past all night).

We arrived late at night, Hotel lobby was very clean and spacious with plenty of seating and they had free wi-fi there. Nothing around was open that late to get snacks/drinks so get them from the airport if you're arriving late at night, but the servo next door was open the next morning. Staff were very friendly and helpful when we were looking at ferry transfers to Moorea. We had a 1 bedroom apartment for 4 adults, apartment was spacious, clean and the beds were soooo comfy. We were on the 4th floor overlooking the servo and the port in the distance, our room was quiet. There were 2 problems with the room. There wasn't any milk and the restaurant was closed so reception couldn't get any, so i couldn't have a cuppa tea upon arrival. And the bathroom floor flooded as the water ran around the top of the bath and over the ledge every-time, but there were extra towels in the room we just put them down to help. We all took torches with us after reading all the poorly-lit comments on tripadvisor but didn't need them, yes the lighting was low but it wasn't a problem for us. Our aircon worked fine, the lifts were fine as well. The location was excellent, we saved on transfers to the port by walking with our suitcases, it was a little bit of a bumpy walk, took our party of 6 about 10mins to get there but very easy straight down the one road.

Room Tip: We had 1 bedroom apartment 420 was very happy with that.

This started out as a business trip, but the wife and daughter met me and we spent 2 nights in the Nui. It is very modern in furnishings and fixtures, everything worked great and the AC was a blessing after I had been on a research ship in the tropics for two months....ahhhh. We prefer small boutique hotels or B&Bs but this was well located - just 4-5 blocks from the bars, restaurants, and THE Market - and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We had a mountain view room (backside of hotel) with a great balcony - perfect for petit dejeuner with crossiants, fruit, and juice from the Shell Station! The blue LED lighting that many have complained about was not an issue for us (remember that energy is INCREDIBLY expensive in French Polynesia) and the open atrium in the center of the hotel provides lots of light, and is quite beautiful. The pool is very nice, but it is shaded in the afternoon and with the trade winds blowing, it can get a little cool. The only negative for us was the bar - entirely too expensive and empty, not a lot to entice you in. But, there are so many bars just blocks away, don't bother. Overall, very good location, great staff, clean, great views on one side (but, I can appreciate the avenue-side rooms being noisy), but a bit pricey (hey, you're in Tahiti) and wifi only in lobby (surprising given the modern facilities). I'd recommend for the non-adventurous traveler or those just passing through on their way to a cruise ship or other islands.

Room Tip: get a plus tranquille room on the back side

When the taxi from the airport pulled up in front, the lobby was so dark I was sure the hotel was closed. The lobby was dark, but the hallways were even darker! There were no overhead lights in the hallways. There were blue led lights above the doors, but you had to go right up to the door to be able to read the room number. The darkness theme continued into the bathroom - it was very minimalist with very small lights. It was impossible to put your make up on with that poor lighting. The AC worked but not well. The room was very hot when we arrived and the AC had not been turned on in preparation for our arrival. We chose not to have the $28 breakfast buffet the next day. We went next door to the Shell station and bought breakfast for much less than the restaurant.

We stayed 2 nights here (2 different time) on our way in from New Zealand and on our way out.

Both time we stayed at the exact same room: 1 bedroom suite.

Location: downtown Papeete, around 15mins from airport. Taxi cost around 2300 xpf each way. Next to gas station (with convenient store). Around 5-10 minutes walk to main street.

The lobby is nice, free wi-fi (in the lobby only), free wired internet in the room. The room was big with kitchen and living room. The kitchen wasn't equipped with anything... so don't expect to cook here. Doesn't even have microwave. All channels were in French so we ended up just surfing on the net with our laptop.

Both time we were there, there were mosquitoes in our room. We were bitten pretty badly the first time so the second time we stayed there again we were prepared. In just one night we managed to kill 3 huge mosquitoes before going to bed. Our A/C was blasting and we didn't open any windows both times. We think they followed us into the room since the hallway is very dark, so any light from the room really attract them.

Bathroom is very dark, and there's no shower curtain. Its a bath with shower head, so when we tried to point the shower to the corners so the water doesn't go everywhere, it ends up going down the side of the bath and onto the floor. First night the husband wasn't aware of it, ended up the water went all the way to the bedroom.

We didn't hear much noise even though we were on the 2nd floor, but we did notice many non-guests coming in at night to party at the club.

Food: not the best, and definitely not cheap. We tried their restaurant because our airline had to pay for it (due to cancellation of our flight). But after trying, I have to say we could have easily gotten something better and cheaper in town.

Arrived in Papette on our easy from Bora Bora to New Zealand and had to stay the night. Accidentally booked Hotel Taira for the wrong day so did a last minute booking here. Was glad b/c we drove by Tiara and it looked like a total dump. This hotel was pretty well appointed but came with a price tag. Overall would recommend if you're staying in Papette for more than just the night to catch an international flight. Good location as well.

We stayed at this hotel longer than intended as our "splurge" boat trip to Tetiaroa was cancelled due to strong winds (which duly didn't arrive!)

First impressions were good, check in was smooth and the room was lovely. It pretty much went downhill from there though. The biggest problem was the noise. We had a roadside room (mountain view are extra and weren't available through booking.com) which meant constant noise all night. This isn't good enough for a hotel charging £130+ per night - I have stayed in £40 hotels on noisier roads where I haven't heard a thing because they invested in decent windows.

Other downsides are the bizarre location, crammed in beside a petrol station with a view of some dilapidated buildings - again hardly glamourous. For such a new hotel the pool was very disappointing - completely unstaffed, wooden decking was loose and worn and worst of all they decided to locate the bins directly below the pool so it smelled terrible. There was also no wifi by the pool or in the rooms which meant sitting in reception to check email, etc. - again not good enough for the price.

Finally, when we tried to extend our stay after our mini-cruise was cancelled, they quoted a rate 20% higher than I'd paid for the first night. When I queried this they told me to book on booking.com for a better rate! A total waste of 10 minutes of my time and whatever commission the hotel would have to pay.

I won't be back!

Room Tip: If you want to sleep, take a mountain view room
