Owner description: Sculptured through the workings of wind, water and vegetation, the Sigatoka Sand Dunes stand out as one of Fiji's most unique wonders. In 1989, 390 acres of the Sigatoka Sand Dunes was established as Fiji's first National Park- The Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park. A key contributor to its protection is the archaeological treasures buried beneath the dune sands. These artefacts have contributed significantly to the history of man's first arrival in Fiji. Today, evidence of this past continue to be unearthed by the wind. The Park is home to a unique Dune forest which is home to a myriad of wildlife. Some notable inhabitants of this forest include the Fijian Swallow tail Butterfly, the fruit bats, the Goshawks, the giant stick insects and cryptic Pacific Boa. The National Park is a Fijian heritage, rich in both natural and cultural attributes.

“Worth the climb! :)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2006

As you stand at the bottom and look up it seems like such a challenge, and it is, the walk up is very exhausting, like treading in thick mud...it just pulls all your weight down..the legs did abit of burning that morning so i appreciated the extra help..haha.
Anyway, as soon as you get to the top, it is AMAZING! The view is sooooooooooooooooooooooo beautiful, and if you are like me and are scared of heights, just dont look down, it is a long way back down again..
Though i would recommend that you walk along on its tops, very lovely walk, though becareful not to be blown away by the wind..haha, it does feel as though you could just get knocked off by abit of air..haha..
The waves are a surfers delight! The morning i went up there i would say they were about 4ft+ ..alot of lefts, good strong barrels...a picnic with a view for certain, from up on the sand dunes it does remind you of an australian gold coast beach stretched out for miles..beautiful...........i will try to go there again to watch the sunset, should be a thrill!!
Since i am such a weak knee person when it comes to heights, trust me, have a run down the sand dunes..go slow if you'd like, savour the moment because it is soooooooo much fun, it seems scary as you are looking down from the top but once you step foot onto the sand on your way down, it's like stepping onto cushions! but soooooo much fun, it's just the walk back up that bites you hard, but i enjoyed it very much! i would garuntee you would too!
