We went to Hideaway for 10 days from 19/10/12. My husband is an experienced diver, I read books! We are both 60yo and have stayed all around the world in no star to 5 star. We started in Frangipani Accom. which was very nice. There was an issue with this room on first night and to rectify it the staff upgraded us to a Deluxe Ocean Front (and gave us a basket of fruit). Both had outdoor shower as well as indoor one but Ocean Front was more updated and looked straight at Ocean but in all both rooms were good. Rooms have chairs either inside or out on verandah and comfort of chairs varies but staff will change them if you ask. There are some Bures which are older and a bit more tired looking but they too are OK. We are not big drinkers and took all inclusive package. Food was nice - not spectacular but very edible. You certainly don't go hungry. Drinks all OK and my husband drinks wine so had house wine - He had Sav Blanc mainly - said it was same as getting House Wine in Australia. Not the very best wines but quite drinkable. Local Beer, Spirits, Soft Drink also included so in all we felt package good value. Staff very kind & friendly, we had a couple of minor maintenance problems (door handle and light bulb) whilst there and they were fixed almost immediately. Many guests were returning after being there on previous holidays. There is a local trio of musicians - guitars and ukulele - who play in and around bar, pool and dining room most of the day. It is enjoyable and not too intrusive. The disco music at the pool when water aerobics is on is a bit loud - but no big deal just move away for an hour! Many poolside and local activities such as water aerobics, water volleyball, snorkelling off beach, village walk, reef walk, garden walk, cooking demo, language class etc. There are games at the bar (like Scattergories) each happy hour which are a bit of fun with prizes and there are games in the afternoons where you can win coffees, Disco starts at 10.00pm each night (but we could not hear it from our room at all). All these activities were free except reef shoes cost FJD5 to hire. Scuba shop - Diveaway Fiji - on site. Again lovely staff, boat dives cater to all from learners to experienced only go about 20mins off shore and diving finished by lunch time usually. Can have a try in pool if you want to learn. It is luck of draw who is diving on any given day and the combined experience levels mean that there is a lot of not too deep diving usually. Suited my husband to have lovely, non challenging, warm, safe diving for a week. As he goes to other dive places for more challenging diving he was happy to have relaxed easy diving. Turtles, Corals, Nudibrachs, Sharks, Octopus and Fish all put in appearances. There is nightly free stage entertainment including Polynesian Dancing, a sort of amateur talent night from the staff, the village Church Choir on Sunday night (they sing hymns in Fijian and have a basket to collect donations for their school). There is Firewalking one night which costs FJD$16 each. Free movies - one for kids and one for adults run most nights in their small "cinema". Local Buses run to Sigatoka often and also there is a Suva Express which comes past several times a day. There is a kids club and lots of kids were at the resort but it was not too noisy and everyone mixed very well. Babysitting at night is also available. Instead of sunbathing poolside I sat on my verandah or in seats around grounds and read book as poolside did get crowded in middle of day. There is a sandy beach and manicured lawns which you could easily lay out on if you wanted to. We were booked through My Holiday Centre - My Fiji and got a FJD500 credit towards food, drink or spa treatments from them. We got 2 full body massages, 2 pedicures, 1 manicure, 1 head shoulders back massage and 6 cocktails from this money so it was good value. All in all, whilst not 5 star, it was friendly, relaxed and enjoyable. We did not go seeking a 5 star holiday but the service beat most places in Australia for friendliness and flexibility. It is easy to put heaps of small irritating things in a review but just go and relax and enjoy the experience, small incidental things give you something to talk about but they certainly don't have to ruin your holiday. Hideaway was a fun, friendly relaxing place. We were very happy with My Holiday and Hideaway and would go back anytime.
The Frangipani suites are cheapest but are furthest from pool and dining and a couple of rows back f...
