“If a stated 5 star that's what you expect...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2010 via mobile

If a stated 5 star that's what you expect but we found that the hotel is dated and should be nearer to a 3 star. The food is ok nothing special. The beach is rocky and not very good for snorkling as there isn't any coral. It's is good for families around the pool but not if you like peace and quiet!! The shop and restaurant next door is good and far cheaper than the hotel. You can also book taxi transfers with them to the airport again far cheaper than the hotel. We also went diving at Beqa lagoon which was excellent, some of the best diving we have ever done. Ok hotel if all you want to do is sit around a pool.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience in relation to your recent holiday at Outrigger on the Lagoon . Fiji.

We were obviously disappointed that you did not rate the resort 5 star, as you will note from our other trip advisors, that they most certainly enjoyed our 5 star service.

Outrigger on the Lagoon . Fiji is rated as the number one 5 star resort in Fiji. The resort was fully refurbished in 2008.

I have noted your comments in relation to our beach! Whilst it may not be the best beach in Fiji, the snorkeling and water sports are of a very high quality! It should also be noted that we are currently in the process of totally regenerating our front beach area.

We also note your comment in relation to the shop and restaurant next door. Whilst the actual taxi service may be somewhat cheaper, they do not carry any insurance coverage. This is why we do not utilize this service.

Once again we thank you the for time you have taken to advise fellow trip advisor readers of your holiday experience and we look forward to welcoming you back to Outrigger on the Lagoon . Fiji, at some time in the not too distant future.

We really enjoyed our stay and the the Talai Team were wonderful. Would not hesitate to stay there again and would recommend this place to anyone who wants to relax.... maybe not during the holidays if you don't like kids runnng around. The food was good and the full board option is a must.

Would definately recommend Outrigger on the Lagoon for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday and the famous Fijian hospitality. The staff really go the extra mile to ensure the comfort of guests. Restaurants were fabulous, rooms clean and spacious, fantastic pool, so pretty at night and in the day. The Tempura prawns at the poolside restaurant were a favourite of mine....I have a feeling we'll be back again next year.....!

Beautiful resort, with excellent friendly staff that went the extra mile to be helpful and pleasant. Good fun for all ages. Excellent selection of restaurants. Suggest you try the 5star Ivy Restaurant at least once. Bebe Spa a definite must. No need to even leave the resort. Excellent balance of day time activities and night time fun. Had six days, wanted to stay for longer.

We are a retired New Zealand couple and we had a great week at the Outrigger in a deluxe oceanview room.. The setting is fabulous and the grounds, pool and amenities outstanding. We were happy to just relax there, enjoy the pool and its loungers, and some of the entertainment laid on like crabracing(!), and the flame dancers. The complimentary snorkelling and canoeing on the lagoon is well worth doing, and we used the well equipped gym on cloudy days. The rooms are of adequate size(just), but smaller than I would expect for a 5 star resort.( and smaller than the 47 sq. m. the website states I reckon). There is no sofa/comfortable lounge type seating in it which is a pity, but the king beds are superb. We liked the plunger coffee provided free also. The daily complimentary Talai butler service of bubbly and canapes is lovely and an excellent gesture.
On the negative side is the food and associated service. The seafood buffet at $F69 is very overpriced as the food was just average. We ate in 2 other restaurants there and the service was poor, amazingly so for a 5 star resort. While the service at the sundowner restaurant was good one day but on another day it was a real shambles, however the lunch meal prices 0f $F25 for salad, pizza and soft drink was very reasonable.
The Outrigger has a big sign on the beach warning it's guests not to eat at the nearby reastaurants saying that could lead to ill health. This is in "poor taste" in my view. We ate at the outstanding beachfront "Ebb tide" restaurant at the Begarra resort 5 mins walk away, and the service was outstanding, prompt and very friendly. The food was brilliant there, better than and less than half the price at the Outrigger. I thoroughly recommend this as an alternative if you want a change, or something better or much cheaper.
Nevertheless we would thoroughly recommend the Outrigger as a wonderful resort, with lovely friendly Fijian staff providing a great sense of the real Fiji. Thank you.

We have recently returned from our second visit to the Outrigger. The Outrigger is great for a family holiday. It is well set up with kids club, activities for all, with a huge pool. We stayed again in a Planation Bure. The service we received was first class. The champagne and canapes early evening and the nightcap were well received. We also had a rollaway bed put in the bure too for our youngest child but the bure was still very spacious. The buffet breakfasts were wonderful. Our two children ate from the kids menus, as their meals were free. The menus for them were great, good selection for them and they never had a problem choosing what they wanted for lunch or dinner. Dessert was also included in both meals. The Kalokalo bar has wonderful views and ultra quiet. We had a couple of quiet afternoons there enjoying the tapas and cocktails whilst our eldest was in kids club and the youngest having a nap under the watchful eye of a sitter. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and our youngest is still greeting people with a loud 'bula'. This was a great place for a family holiday, it has everything you could possibly require. We have already started planning another return trip.
Many thanks to all the staff especially 'Zak' our wonderful Talei (butler) man.

We stayed at the Outrigger for the last two days of our 10 day trip to Fiji. After our previous acommodations, the Outrigger was heaven! Air conditioning, working shower, great (and numerous) towels. We stayed in one of the ocean breeze bures. All good.

All the staff were friendly and helpful. Everyone said Bula! and had a smile for you. Jonatani, our butler was fantastic (and I hope he hears we said so). Food was good, if expensive. Rum drinks were good, too! Coffee drinks were tasty.

The Kula Eco Park is close by and a great morning activity. The only negative we found was that one evening apparently it was Indian buffet night and most of the people w/children did not seem to want to go, so everyone was crammed into the small asian restaurant. Service that night was pretty slow, never got our dessert and just got tired of waiting. Maybe more dining options on those evenings.

Lots of children. We were there when lots of Australian families were on their winter vacation. If you don't care for children, don't go then, because there were lots of kids. All in all, we had a fantastic time, and the staff was completely helpful and acommodating, starting with the enthusiastic young man who manned the hut at the entrance. His enthusiastic shouts of "BULA" were very welcoming and appreciated!

If we were ever returning to Fiji, we would be staying at the Outrigger!
P.S. We really appreciated the postcard we received on our return to the States. Vinaka!
