We booked this resort, to accommodate the needs of our mobile, but severely disabled child. We enjoyed the large grounds and beautiful gardens with well paved footpaths and a covered walkway. The swimming pool was ideal with several shallow areas with features providing interest for example the bubble spa and the fountains. There were more sufficient deck chairs and well shaded areas for protection from the sun.
We were located in an ocean view room in the main block. It meant easy accessibility to reception and a short walk (five minutes) to the pool and restaurants. The room was pleasantly and simply decorated in neutral colours. The balcony had comfortable deckchairs to sit on and watch the sun go down. The beds were extremely comfortable and the air-conditioning was quiet, effective, and at times not needed.
The room was efficiently cleaned each day and re-provisioned.
With babysitting, we used the kid-free zones of KaloKalo bar and the Ivi restaurant. We had high tea at bar which is located high on the hill and which was exactly as expected with cucumber sandwiches, little cakes and tea along with extensive views. We also had a cocktail there one evening and watched the sun go down. The Ivi restaurant provided Pacific Rim cuisine with Fijian style service.
We did not use the meal plan. Included in the room price was a ‘kids meals free’ offer and the kids menu provided a range of options for our child. We ate at the buffet on the Indian themed night and enjoyed the variety. However the a- la- carte menus in the Sundowner Café and the Baravi Café are somewhat limited. We were puzzled at the lack of Indian and Fijian food choices on the menus of these two eateries.
We had been looking forward to kayaking with our child but unfortunately the trade-winds were blowing making the lagoon too rough for kayaking and unpleasant for snorkeling.
The resort has a structured activity schedule. We enjoyed the fire-lighting ceremony each evening. The gym is well equipped and there is a tennis court and volleyball court. The instructors are friendly and attentive. The kids club wasn’t suitable for our child as she lacks the intellectual capability but we did use the playground and were impressed by the care and attention being given the children in the club along with the wide range of activities they were undertaking.
We received excellent support from the staff. They knew our child’s name within a day of our arrival (partly due to her disability). They went out of their way to engage with her.
The musicians, three men on ukulele and guitar were fabulous. Rosie loved to sit at the end of each meal just listening and clapping to the music and they were very encouraging and warm towards her. Rosie loves music and these interactions were a major highlight of our time here.
