“Amazing memorable adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

This trip was by far the most memorable moment of our trip to Fiji. My husband and I took our two kids, aged 4 and 7, on the tour and everyone had an amazing time. We were picked up at the lobby of our hotel and shuttled to the river by a lovely tour guide and driver, with a short stop in the town of Sigatoka to sign papers and do some shopping. We had a safety briefing and got our life vests on then boarded the jet boats. Along the way on the river, we stopped a few times to discuss the surroundings and village culture. We stopped at a small village and the residents greeted us and showed us around their village. We were invited into the community hall for a welcoming ceremony and after the tour of the village, we were given a lunch which was cooked by the villagers, everyday food that they eat. The food was amazing. Everything was so fresh. The meal consisted of many dishes of fruits, vegetables, chicken dishes and sweet bread. We sat on the floor and ate while the village men played music and sang. The music was so enchanting, their voices bellowed through the hall. After eating, we all had a celebration and danced and sang with our new friends. The philosophy of the residents was that we are not only visitors, but by coming to visit, we are now friends and we are expected to come and visit if ever we are to come back to Fiji. We were given homemade decorations and got powder on our faces as a sign of friendship. When the visit was over, we headed back to the jet boats for a thrilling ride down the river with plenty of 360° turns, getting everyone pretty wet. All the staff of the Sigatoka River Cruise were so friendly and helpful, amusing and knowledgable. The trip was worth every penny.

“One of the best trips ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

The safari staff are excellent, the boat ride is exhilarating, and the experience in the village is eye opening. You leave with a new appreciation for modern life and respect for those who live in the village.

As recommended, bring a change of clothes. Also, sit back for a long trip to get to and from the boat launch location. (We did the afternoon tour and didn't return to our hotel at Port Denaru until almost 8pm.)

You should feel free to take a gift to the village. It will be given to the chief. Some ideas are treats intended for the kids, clothing, even a donation.

“Great trip - interesting and lots of fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

Although fairly expensive, it was well worth the spend and knowing that some of the ticket price goes to educating village children, developing facilities in the village etc was good.

The drive from Sigatoka to the jetty was pretty, but nothing compares to the boat trip up the river; Amazing views, so make sure you take a camera.

The tour goes to different villages each day and these rotate on a six month basis so as not to disrupt life too much. In the village we met locals, discussed village life and learnt of their history. It began with a kava ceremony, then a tour, before a delicious lunch finished off with music and dancing!

The return boat trip was even more fun than the ride up due to a number of 360 spins! It was also great to see the locals waving and smiling from the shores of the river...or wading across it! I often wondered how the jet boat navigated the river so well, but with specially created boats and great captains we always felt in safe hands.

“Wonderful experience...both jet boat and village visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

A fantastic experience, would highly recommend. Captain Freddy was our boat captain and was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. On the way upriver to the village, he talked about the history of the area and the people who lived and farmed there. The village visit itself was the highlight of the day. We were welcomed, participated in a kava ceremony, given a tour of the village and some of its buildings, then given a delicious lunch, prepared by the village women. Afterwards there was music and dancing, the villagers inviting us to join them. When the villagers sang the Farewell Song, "Isa Lei", and it was time for us to leave, we felt we were saying goodbye to new friends, not strangers. Although the ride upriver was tranquil, the return trip was definitely not! As expected, we were provided with enough 360 degree turns in the jet boat to get us completely wet! It was lots of fun.

“Cultural extravaganza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

The Sigatoka River Safari was a truly amazing experience. My 12 year old son and I went on the safari together. We have been on several jet boat rides and enjoy this experience, however, I also wanted the opportunity to see people in the Villages and let my son experience life as others know it.

Our captain Mike was fantastic. He knew the area well and shared tales of cannibalism and the rich history of the valley. Our bus driver (Mr Squarepants) was funny and entertaining. We went for our boat ride down the river to a beautiful village. There we had a truly beautiful experience and learnt a lot about a sense of community and togetherness.

After experiencing and participating in cultural dances and ceremonies, we had a feast prepared by the villagers. After that we returned to the boat and experienced a fantastic jetboat ride with lots of 360 degree spins.

This was a very enjoyable and educational experience for both myself and my son. I saw staff members show kindness, generosity and go out of their way for all the people on the boat ride today. They cater for people with different needs and I am blessed to have been part of this experience. Thank you.
