This hotel is unassuming from the front, but once inside, terrific. NIce and outdoors feel to the restaurant and bar area which is what you want in Fiji! Pool area is good too for a dip after a day out and about. We just used this hotel between trips out to the island and sightseeing around Nadi town, and no complaints. Staff friendly. Internet to send emails when we got back in the afternoons, and even a big screen TV and lounges in the reception lounge so that we didn't have to miss out on what was happening during the World Cup (which is when we were travelling).

All in all a great little budget hotel.

The hotel looked a little funny when we drove up, but once inside it was very nice. I have no complaints, but make sure you get an updated room- not all of them are done yet!

I found the staff at the Mercure to be extremely helpful and friendly. I stayed at the Mercure for two nights - one on my way to Mana Island and one on the way back to New Zealand, five days later. Even though I'd only been there for one night, the staff all recognised and greeted me - and one woman even noticed that I'd developed a tan!! It makes a huge difference to your stay when the staff are that great.

I hadn't initially realised that the buffet breakfast was not included in my booking - something to ask when you reserve your room. However, for FJD 19.50 (about GBP 7), the breakfast was more than adequate - including the dedicated egg-maker (eggs any way you like them!).

I had different rooms for each night that I stayed. The first night I had a ground floor room which overlooked the pool area - although the locks etc worked fine, it probably wasn't in the best location for a female travelling alone, but there were no issues - just from a state of mind perspective. Amenities in the room were as expected for a hotel in its class.

However, the room I had on my return visit wasn't quite as nice. There were large, significant chips in the enamel in the bath, which doesn't affect the shower itself, but just looks like they need to spend some money to improve its appearance. But fine if all you do in your hotel room is sleep and shower.

All in all, a good hotel for what you're paying, but don't expect a luxurious stay. I can't comment on the pool or the meals as I didn't use the pool or the restaurant (aside from breakfast).

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Mercure and have nothing but praise for the hotel and staff. Our first impression was disappointment at the location, but this turned out to be wrong - the local bus runs from outside the hotel directly into Nadi at a cost of only 70c - excellent value, and all the trips and tours pick up and drop off directly to the hotel. We ended up eating at the hotel every evening. The food was better than anything we had encountered in the previous 2 weeks in New Zealand. The hotel pool is a pleasant oasis and there is plenty of shade for those of us who do not like the sun. The icing on the cake were the staff, who greeted us like long lost friends every time we met them - I felt genuinely upset to leave at the end of our stay. We arrived expecting the hotel to be yet another 'chain', but left feeling that we could recommend it to any one. It might not suit the sort of people who think the Denarau Sheraton would be to their liking, but would certainly more than satisfy the average man on the street! (and for the price, it represents excellent value for money)

We spent 1 night here early March. Try to request a ground floor room as there are no lifts. We had a deluxe room on the ground floor - it was quite comfortable and clean and looked out to the pool area and gardens which were quite nice. This is the old Dominion Hotel which has been refurbished by the Accor Group. Staff were friendly and quite helpful. As we didn't get there until 7pm we decided to eat at their restaurant. Nice setting around the pool etc., but the food was not good. Beef was so tough we couldn't eat it.
There were also sandflies around (which must be common) as the waiter brought Aeroguard to our table. After dinner, we went for a walk out on the main road and discovered about 3 quite presentable-looking restaurants, one of which was a Steak House. Probably would have been better eating there. All in all, quite OK as a stopover, but I wouldn't want to spend more than one night.
