“Could be better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

The Raffles Gateway Hotel staff are wonderful as you expect in Fiji - having returned home I thought I should tell you about our one night at the Raffles Gateway Hotel. => We arrived mid afternoon for a 7am departure the next morning and requested and prepaid for a QUIET delux room - After having to change rooms because they put us in a room that was right on the main road and directly opposite the parked jets we ended up in a nice 2nd story room at back which was quite and looked clean and tidy - but, almost immediately I noticed the 1st baby cockroach - which I killed. This went on all our stay in our room with cockroaches of all sizes emerging from their hiding place as soon as the light was turned off - this made us feel creepy and wonder if we were to wake up with bed bugs - the bed bugs didn't happen but frankly, the place needs a good fumigation and the cockroaches will carry you away if not careful. Sorry but, I would not stay there again - at $200 per night, a cockroach infestation is not what I expect.

We stayed at this hotel for a night on route back to Australia and our very short experience was very positive.
We arrived from the islands wet and tired and the checkin was fast and efficient - we were even upgraded to a suite which was an unexpected surprise..
The room was large and clean. The bed comfortable and the linen fresh.
We went to the bar for a drink and for an airport hotel this was quite ok.
Dinner was also very good. We had the fish and prawn curry respectivly and it was tasty and plentiful.
Breakfast was not included in the room rate which was a bit dissapointing so am unable to comment on quality of this.
And the best part is that you are 2 mins to the departure terminal.
So for a night it met all our requirements with no complaints.
Would stay again.

Room Tip: We were in 112 which is a good room but is right next to the stairs so you hear all the passing peop...

We had a fairly decent stay in January. Everything was fairly up to standard and we had a great time besides one thing. There was a seriously outrageous number of cockroaches roaming around the place, having meetings in the bath room at night. One even spoke to me say he would destory my Mum if we didn't let them "chill out" in the roach den (bath room). This is a little bit of a joke obviously. However there were a significantly alarming number of cockroaches that accompanied us throughout our one nights stay. Otherwise I would recommend staying here as it was "fairly" decent.

Stayed twice at this hotel recently. First night I booked direct and was charged the rack rate even though I requested their 'best rate'. Luckily there was a mix up with the second night's booking and I was able, after talking to friends I was travelling with and looking at some of the booking sites, establish that I should be paying about 59% of the rate I was charged. The reduced rate I paid for an executive room is about right as the near $200 rate is definitely not worth it!

Called the hotel re the second booking and asked them to match the reduced rate. But, I was asked to send 'an email' stating my request. As I had poor internet access where I was, that was certainly not a satisfactory response I believe.

Good things:
* friendly wait staff in the restaurant;
* okay food for the price;
* grounds well maintained;
* close to the airport;
* room clean and bathroom adequate;
* nice pool area;
* good coffee;
* okay for a night's stopover but not a holiday destination as there is nothing to do in Nadi as far as I was concerned.

Could be improved:
* air conditioner makes a lot of noise at night;
* tv was blurry even after technician 'adjusted' it;
* wine list rather pathetic considering Fiji's proximity to Australia (where a lot of cheap, good wine is available)
* no free internet and it disconnects all the time even though you pay per time period and not usage

Overall an okay stay at the reduced rate.

Room Tip: Okay for a night at the online rate.... not worth the rack rate quoted by the hotel. Internet extra...

Our family of 4 stayed one night here before flying out of Fiji. The hotel is reasonably priced for the night and although somewhat claustrophobic feeling after our more spacious surroundings prior, totally did the job and offered what we needed for one night. The room was on the second floor, and was fairly quiet. We didn't notice any air traffic noise later at night. The room was clean enough, and secure. We found the eco aircon to be okay for the bedroom, but didn't really cool the lounge/kids area as much - so still quite warm in the room. We spent a bit of time at the pool, shop, bar and restaurant - and all were pleasant enough. No qualms. NIce gardens and a grassy area for the kids to run on, plus the runway viewing pool/waterslide was great fun (if somewhat quite fast for our 6 year old and into the deep plunge pool!) The food was nice and our overnight "tab" converted back to a low NZ total. The staff performed their jobs well. This hotel was perfect for a stopover - closest you may get to the airport across the road! I wouldn't want to stay longer near Nadi as we really noticed the smog setting in later in the day (particularly after being in the clean air of North Fiji). I would stay here again for a night if necessary.

Room Tip: Probably to the rear of the property away from bar, road and runway, although some rooms open toward...

Nice handy location to Nadi airport, located over the road, especially for an early flight, with no stress waiting for transfers from further out locations.
Rooms roomy and ours was located on the far side of complex with mountain views so no airport noise at all.
Pool is fantastic for the kids, and were swimming right up until we dragged them out for our flight home.
The local buses stop right outside the hotel, and are a cheap, cheerful and certainly an experience ride into Nadi, or half an hour up to Lautoka, which is so much better than Nadi for shopping and the markets are great.
Have stayed at Raffles three times now, and would not hesitate to stay again.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 young kids (2 and 4) stayed here for one night in May after arriving on a late flight. Our kids would have been happy to stay for another night to get more time in the pool and on the waterslide.

The staff were friendly and it did not bother them when our kids ran around the restaurant and bar area like mad hatters after being couped up in a plane for too long.

We ate at the restaurant for dinner and the food was pretty good at a reasonable price.

We stayed in a deluxe room which for us meant a king bed and two singles. The room is set into two areas divided by a curtain effectively creating two sleeping areas. If there were no kids this would have left a nice area with a couch etc so I would definitely recommend getting at least a deluxe room. The executive rooms looked nice to.

The pool is excellent. Our whole family enjoyed a morning dip before departing. The kids were also very impressed that it had a waterslide.

The hotel is right opposite the airport (but we didn’t hear any planes at night) and so is very convenient as a stopover before heading elsewhere. The entrance isn’t sign posted so well however, and driving ourselves we had to double back to find it. You need to turn right when you get out of the airport and then a quick left down the driveway.

We would stay here again for a night or two.

Room Tip: Definitely go for a deluxe or even an executive room
