We stayed two nights at the Tanoa International - one pre island holiday and one post island holiday.

We arrived late in the evening and the staff were very friendly from the moment we arrived. We had our bags taken to our room and settled in for a quick bite to eat and a drink at the bar.

The pool, although it may be a little small as written in some other reviews, brought welcome relief after the flight from Australia. The spa bath is also small (4 person approx) and uses cold water - not heated, but then again who needs a hot spa when in humid weather!

We stayed in the Superior room and found it to be a nice size and very comfortable for the one night that we were there.

After a great sleep we realised that we left our camera on the plane and went straight to Reception who rang the airport for us and arranged a bus to take us to the airport, our driver also took us to the found items area (through several back corridors) and brought us back to the Hotel - at no extra cost, all before our transfer to our island.

On our return night we were welcomed back to the Hotel and received an upgrade at no cost to an executive room. The room was about the same size and very comfortable to stay in.

We found that the staff were very approachable and even one of the groundstaff opened up a huge fresh coconut for us to drink.

The Tanoa International is spread out on a huge property and is lovely to walk around the gardens. At night we were lucky to spot a few "locals" being frogs and lizards.

Overall, a great Hotel, close to the airport with facilities that are great for a ngiht or two.

  • Liked — Closeness to the airport
  • Disliked — Approx 1 hr away from the Harbour - Boat transfers for the islands

We stayed at the Tanoa International for a night after arriving in Fiji. We caught the courtesy bus from the airport and our check in was processed quickly. We had quite a nice hotel room, so I'm assuming it must have been one of the newer ones from reading other reviews of the hotel. It was a superior room. We weren't leaving to go to our island till later in the afternoon, so we arranged for a later check out while we caught a cab into Nadi town to look around. They were also happy to mind our bags after we checked out so that we could have some lunch and look around the two stores at the hotel.

We had breakfast and lunch at the hotel, but they were a bit below average. However, I think this may may be partly due to the fact that they are working on their restaurant and the temporary restuarant is in their convention room.

I would recommend this hotel for a 1-2 night stopover in Nadi before you head out to the islands.

We picked the Tanoa due to the proximity to the airport as we were arriving quite late and wanted an inexpensive decent hotel near the airport. The Tanoa, exceeded our expectations by far.

It was also very reasonable priced compared to the other resorts that we stayed in, but you cant compare the 2 as this is a hotel and not an island resort.

For us, it was a wonderful introduction to Fiji!
As we walked in, there was a band playing in the bar which added to the whole experience, the pool and bar area is also very good.

The room was excellent, very modern, clean and came with a fridge.

The restaurant had a good selection and was reasonably priced.
There was also a shop which sold ice-creams, water, colddrinks etc.

If we have to stay over in Fiji before/after flying, we would stay here again

Am trying Mercure Hotel Nadi next trip. Tanoa is the best of a
bad lot in my experience. Raffles, Mocambo, Wests are on my no go again ever list. Tanoa has been our choice many times but and not impressed. Mercure has been recommended so we shall see. We like to go to First Landing at Vuda Point depending on our flight times. Bit more expensive but worth it
just for the dining experience on the beach front.
Have found some of the staff at Tanoa very disintrested but others wonderful. The meals are OK. Have overslept on many ocasions after having been forgotten on the wake up call list.
Rooms Ok but a bit tired.

Myself and two others stayed at the Tanoa for 3 nights for a quick trip away. We found the room adequate for our needs and the airconditioning quite good. We spent most of our time around the pool which was absolutely lovely - in a beautiful setting near the restaurant and bar.

The staff are all very friendly, we particularly had fun with the bar staff who were so happy and friendly - particularly Josiah the bar manager who always said a loud hi or "bula" whenever we happened to walk past!! Participating in the kava ceremony with the musicians is fun, do it if you are invited to.

We ate most nights at the restaurant, the buffet's are great although there were some comments from my travelling partners about the surprising lack of seafood, I personally preferred the buffet food to what was on offer on the menu and all the food and drink seemed a pretty reasonable price (we went to the Sonaisali for a wedding there and it was quite a bit more expensive).

The biggest gripe we had about the place was that they definitely took their time doing up our rooms - we needed to have a shower in the early afternoon before going to the wedding and found that they hadn't replaced our towels in the rooms, we had to ask a couple of times for them to be replaced and they took their time about it. Something funny also happened when we checked out with regards to the payment from the travel agent - but no biggie, it was all sorted out pretty quickly.

The setting of the place was beautiful and peaceful!! It did get busy some nights - being an airport motel - with travellers who had their flights delayed but that added to the atmosphere.

We were a bit worried after reading some of the more negative reviews, but we are glad we made the choice to stay here anyway as this was a good place to stay for my first trip to Fiji. We were defnitely not disappointed.

Main things to take away - very friendly staff that make you feel welcome, good for a quick getaway, convenient and handy to the airport, nice lush surroundings!

  • Liked — the pool and the friendly staff and the bar
  • Disliked — the late replacement of our towels!
