“Home Away From Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

I came to Bamboo with very little money and very little opportunity to explore Fiji further due to this. But as soon as I got to Bamboo this didn't matter anymore as I didn't want to leave. The staff, understanding my situation, took me under their wing and made me an honourary Fijian for my 24 days at the place. With the other people staying there, together with the staff, it really was a second family. Also, the trips that were organised were fantastic, had so much fun. My days of sitting in a circle, listening to the most fantastic music with the most fantastic people may be over but they will live on with me forever. For anyone who is thinking of staying here, do it. It is the most welcoming place I have ever been to, one that I hope that one day I will be able to return to.

For now, all i can say is Bula Bula, Welcome to Fiji

Gavin

Stayed at Bamboo for 4 days in August. Staff were awesome, food was awesome....stoked! Accom is as you would expect for a backpackers, but they can hook you up with a private room too which is recommended.

Room Tip: Book a night at bamboo, the get the staff to book the following nights at beach escape (next door...

Myself and my girlfriend stayed at Bamboo Backpackers for just the one night as a stop-over before heading out to the Mamanucas and the Yasawas but really wished we had spent longer there.
First of all it is great to get a free pick-up waiting for you when you arrive at the airport so it’s one less thing to have to think about after landing in a new country and is also easier on the pocket. The drive to Bamboo was only about 15-20mins so not too long.
The place itself is really cool and in a nice location across the road from a nice beach and near a couple of other hotels and other types of accommodation with bars and restaurants so there is a nice variety of places to go out if you’re there for a while. We weren’t expecting such a nice beach and for it to be so close so this is one of the reasons we wish we had stayed longer.
We booked a double room for $54FJD I think it was and it was spacious with air-con and your own private toilet and hot water shower. The one negative thing I have to say though is that with there being a volleyball court directly outside the room there was constantly balls hitting the walls and windows (there’s protection in front of the windows) and flying your way when leaving the room which could be a bit of a pain.
The bar area was a cool little place and served pretty cheap food and drinks although we ate across the road the night we stayed at Smugglers Cave where the food was also a decent price and really good quality, plus looking right over onto the beach.
If you are going on an Awesome Adventures Tour, the bus will pick you up in the morning right outside of Bamboo Backpackers so that was all nice and easy.
Overall we would definitely recommend this place and will stay here next time we are Nadi no doubt.

Only stayed one night, as leaving next day, staff friendly, had a good vibe, its no frills, but would stay again, had a lot of people there at night, so must be the place to go to socialise, I wasn't into that, but no noise distrubed me, had a lot of trips advertised that seemed reasonably priced, will stay next time over there,

Myself and my boyfriend spent 6 nights (spread over 2 occasions) at Bamboo in January 2012.

We first had a twin room in the large house, with a fan, shared bathroom and cold shower. We were unimpressed - the curtains didn't cover the whole window, the bathroom smelt and I woke up to find bed bugs crawling on me and the bed. We complained to the staff, who, without a quibble, upgraded us to a double room near the volleyball court, with A/C, en-suite and hot shower. The double room was much better - larger, cleaner, more presentable and the bathroom didn't smell. The shower had very little pressure, and sometimes none - so it was often cold. As our room was right next to the volleyball court and communal area, it was very loud at night - not good for early mornings.

The food was great and cheap. The drinks were cheap, especially cans ($1). Kava ceremony every night. Volleyball and table tennis available. Wi-fi free in rooms and communal areas. Simple breakfast included, which was nice. The staff are very friendly and helpful... without them, it wouldn't be so attractive.

Bula Vinaka, thank you for the review. We acknowledge that the standards for our spot momentarily dropped in January and this was due to the amazing flooding we experienced in Nadi. As a direct result of flooding, the water pressure for the whole area was low or non-existent for weeks after the event. This caused havoc for our maintenance and housekeeping teams but with the support of our awesome staff, we survived :) Sincere apologies that your trip was disrupted and we warmly welcome you to visit us again. All of the issues that you mentioned were targeted and dealt with in late January. Bamboo now is back in full flight as a fun, friendly and atmospheric budget traveller base in Nadi. Thanks again and happy travels. The Bamboo Crew.

Best hostel I've ever stayed! The staff is really really really nice, uncomplicated and friendly. Bamboo is more a family than a hostel. The food is cheap and really delicous, the breakfast is ok and included! Free kava session mit guitar music every night! They provide a lot of activities (table tennis, volleyball, coconut jewellery, fijian language, etc..) for free and trips which you have to pay (surfing, mudpools, etc..). The dorms and facilities are basic but alright for 12 FJD. They also provide free pick-up from the airport 24 hours...that`s really nice! there is no supermarket nearby, but you can catch the local bus in front of the door to town... Will stay there again when I'm coming back...for sure =)

Bamboo has a great atmosphere, the rooms are specious and clean, they even make your bed every day! It's lovely, the staff make you feel right at home. The food is great and cheap and the kava circle is a great time to meat other backpackers and listen to the beautiful music they make. Make sure you go on the north combo trip, see the waterfalls, snorkel at honeymoon island and then maqai. Maqai is a stunning place, paradise and affordable for backpackers. They do loads of activities during the day. Visit Fijian village, volleyball, jungle hike, snorkel, surf, crab race etc. and it's the same atmosphere as in bamboo but the in paradise! Was supposed to stay for 3 days, but ended up staying for  2 weeks and I wished I only could stay longer. Thanks to everyone at bamboo, tuvununu  and maqai. I will go back!
