“Yummy & delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

We dined as a large group and this place was excellent.
I had the cheese cake and it was beautiful. Not to mention the awesome singing and entertainment from the guy witht eh ukelele. He also let some one in our group sing as well. I would certainly return to this fine dining restaurant.

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

We chose this restaurant based on recommendations to celebrate a special family occasion. I had read an article in a local magazine about the Owner and having experienced many similar life and "foodie" experiences, was expecting a great night. Our waitress took our drinks order and when we commented that we were surprised that they didn't do cocktails, she apologised and went and got a cocktail menu. She then took our food order and was very helpful with checking with the kitchen regarding the ingredients of a couple of dishes as we had a member of our party with food allergies. After a long wait, the waitress returned to say the drinks order had been misplaced and took our order again. Eventually the two entrees we ordered arrived, but still no drinks. A passing waiter asked if all was ok, and when we commented that we were still waiting on our drinks, he bought out the bottle of wine we had ordered to go with our main course, but took it away again when told this was not what we were waiting for. The entrees of Sashimi and Pork Belly were both considered delicious, but were almost finished by the time our drinks arrived. We were only about a quarter the way through our drinks when our main courses arrived. Our waitress then plonked the bottle of Pinor Gris in the middle of the table - with the top still on - and announced "Here is your wine to go with your main course". The seafood platter which two of us shared was by far the worst dish we had on the island during our stay. The pappadum sail was soft and stale. There was no fillets of fish or mussels on the platter and the scallop was in a sauce that was inedible. A waiter informed us that it was a mornay sauce, but it tasted more like flour and water. There were two different bland, crumbed items on the platter. One member of our party had the cheesecake for dessert, which was given the thumbs up. The setting and the atmosphere of the restaurant are lovely, but the service from our waitress, combined with the below standard of our Seafood Platter, were a real disappointment. We ate out every night of our week long stay on the Island and there were much better "Value for Money" restaurants to experience.

“Great restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

We had a great meal here. The meal sizes were good and the price was on a par with other restaurants on Rarotonga. We booked in a couple of days ahead and got a table in the front which was lovely. Great views out over the ocean and the staff were all very friendly.

“Lovely place for a meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

We really enjoyed our meal here, we arrived just before sun set and could see a beautiful peach sunset tucked off to the left of the beach, the restaurant looks directly over the water and it is a nice view in the garden or deck of the ocean.

We ordered the seafood platter ( and based on the list of things on it decided we wouldn't need an entree). The platter was a good size and we were thankful we hadn't ordered an entree.

The patter was really yummy and at $75 ( for two Ppl ) well worth it. It was the most expensive thing on the menu with mains ranging in price from $25 - $35. ( I was really impressed with the prices of the meals as they are the same price we paid everywhere else on the island but the food was a higher standard and presented beautifully.)

My recommendation is to make sure to book and ask for a window seat. ( although within saying that we sat at the back of the restaurant and all tables are pointing towards the window so we still had a good view.)

“Were we at the right place?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

We selected this restaurant because of its fine reputation for us to celebrate a special occasion whilst holidaying in Rarotonga. We booked ahead and confirmed in person early on the day. We arrived on time at 8pm to be told our table would not be available for some time so we graciously accepted another table which could not be considered one of their best. We waited for a considerable time before our order was taken only to have the waiter return to tell us there was no more garlic bread! According to her there were no means available for more garlic bread to be made, and no alternative starter was suggested. Eventually and after realising it had to be all self-service for our wine, the main dishes arrived which were good but not as good as other meals we enjoyed on the island(s). It was ages and ages before our finished meals were removed then at 10.40pm we were offered the dessert menu. Our orders were placed, but then the waiter advised us that the coffee machine had already been turned off so there was no coffee to be had. Again we were offered no reasonable alternative or "compensation". Need I say more, except that as we were leaving - and not many other patrons remained by then - we recognised a woman who appeared in the current Escape magazine. As the writer of this review, had I realised that woman is the owner of Tamarind House Restaurant I most certainly would have spoken to her: no-one else there seemed to be interested in responding positively to any of my complaints. There had been a number of large tables of diners that night but that is no excuse for the shabby treatment delivered to us.
