the hotel was very good, there is a nice beach with lots of palmtrees and good snorkeling. there is a nice garden too.
we had a pool view room.
the rooms are very large with own kitchen and clean.
the staff was very friendly and helpful, except the staff from the restaurant anchorage. they dont see if something is empty, e.g. fruitjuice or bread.

all in all we enjoyed our second holiday on the cook islands.
thank you sunset resort!

Stayed here for six nights and absolutely loved it! Kimi who picks you up from the airport is lots of fun, welcoming and vibrant. The flower lei she presented us with were the best we saw when compared with other resorts, smelt beautiful and made you feel very excited and welcome! We couldn't check in as our room wasn't ready, but they gave us a secure place to leave our bags and offered us a bottle of water. They also kept our alcoholic drinks in the fridge when we had to check out and wait around for our flight home.

Great location, close enough to town and everywhere else. Pretty good snorkeling right out the front.

All of the staff were ever so friendly and helpful.

We had a beachfront villa, a must do. We were very pleased with how spacious and clean it was, and very surprised that it had a full kitchen!!

Breakfast of fruit, toast, cereal etc was delicious. The passionfruit was to die for, and the bread tasted and looked home made!

Only cons:
Make sure you check your bill at the end of your stay. We were extremely careful not to charge anything to our room and paid up front every time, but there were charges for the Drum Beat Bar and also the restaurant on there. 110% confident it was inaccurate. Having said that, the lady at the desk was extremely polite about it and didn't dispute it, she amended the bill very quickly for us.
Cocktails are better at the drum beat bar than the restaurant, plus better range.
The restaurant isn't the best. Once again the staff very nice, but not the best food around. Go to Kikau Hut next door. Best restaurant ever!!!

Room Tip: Beachfront! Rooms 5 and 6 are either side of the main footpath down to the beach, so perhaps a littl...

The resort is beachfront with two swimming pools so that ticked a couple of boxes. There is a large lawn with hammocks under t the palm trees and lots of loungers under the palms. The rooms are a decent size with cooking facilities. Breakfast was a continental affair with beautiful fresh local fruits. Recommend this resort for couples only. .

We stayed here the end of may for a week in a 2 bedroom beach front villa and really have nothing bad to say about the resort.
Every one was very friendly, from the restaurant staff, and housekeeping to the reception and bar staff. The room was perfect, very private with beautiful views, it was large and very comfortable as well as being well decorated. Good position on the island, close to town and good restaurants.

Room Tip: definitley go the 2 bedroom beachfront villa, its private and perfect

We stayed in a beachfront apartment in mid April for 6 nights at the start of our 3 week holiday. The location was excellent it terms of the view, sunsets were amazing. Most activities were on the other side of the island so you travel to most things from here but that is easy when hiring a scooter. We hired scooter through the resort, bit of a mistake- upon investigation seems to be the most expensive on the island and scooters are in poor condition- we had 3 separate scooters throughout the stay as they regularly had issues.
The reception is only open from 8:30am- 5:30pm so if you need anything out of those times, which we did, forget it. The washing machine and dryer did not work properly, told the staff but they just kept giving us free tokens to try again eventually had to go to a friends neighboring resort to finish the washing.
The pools were great, room was nice, staff were generally pleasant. The worst part about our stay though was the soft spongy bed. We had a king size bed made of 2 single mattresses and one of the mattresses was clearly older than the other. We told the staff and they said they would flip the mattress for us, which did not happen, we did it ourselves in the end but it didn't help. My husband and i both ended with bad backs after that stay.

Room Tip: Beachfront rooms get the greatest views

Kia Orana, many thanks for your feedback. Lovely to read you enjoyed the location of our resort and our sunsets.

We hear your comments on our beds and believe this is very subjective as we also get many comments on how comfortable they are.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments, we appreciate all feedback.

We stayed at the Sunset for 5 nights as part of a round the world trip and wished we could have stayed longer. I almost don't want to praise it too highly as we want to keep this place secret but the staff here deserve every praise! We stayed during the last week of March 2013, our first time in the Cooks and it didn't disappoint. The location is stunning, the accommodation is excellent, we had a beach front apartment and it was fantastic hearing the pacific waves crashing on the reef, even when inside, it really is paradise. The beach is beautiful and quiet, we had it to ourselves for a lot of our stay, sunsets to die for, as has been said the restaurant at the resort is fine but there are plenty of nearby or not so nearby places to eat. The islanders are friendly and helpful, we were glad that the local people seemed to be retaining money spent by tourists rather than there being international all-inclusive resorts sucking out cash from the island and sending it abroad.
We met a lady who had been previously to the Sunset and was back this time for a whole month! We didn't want to leave and we cant wait to come back.

Where do I start. What an amazing resort. The rooms are spacious and clean and I recommend the beachfront accommodation if you can manage it. The lagoon views from these rooms are just idyllic. We were blessed with great weather for the whole week but there is a great selection of DVDs available at the office if you just feel like chilling out in your room. The staff are very friendly and no request seems to be a problem. The beachfront is pristine with hammocks dotted between coconut trees to be used at your leisure. The resort was full but, incredibly, it seemed really quiet and undercrowded. I suppose this is because there are two swimming pools and the beachfront so there is plenty of room for people to spread out. Cocktails at the Drumbeat Bar were a must and then it was down to the beach to witness the most incredible sunsets! The week went by far too quickly-we just didn't want to go home! Thanks Sunset for an amazing time-we will be back!
