“Great place for relaxation & location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We found Ocean Spray Villas to be exactly what we needed/wanted. It was walking distance to town for food, restaurants, other shopping & smack dab on the beach for relaxing w/a book & a drink. Fantastic tropical sunsets!
While there, Cyclone Lusi passed by way, way out at sea so we watched the lightning display one evening. Then the surf the next day was spectacular! 25-30 ft waves pounding onto the reef in front of us.
If you're planning a trip to Rarotonga & you want a beachfront place for 4 or more, this is the one.
One tip - rent a car. The car rentals are cheap - we paid $160 NZD for a 5 day rental, split between 2 couples. Someone has to get a CI driver's license for $20 but that only took 20 minutes. The bus is $5pp every time you get on so just going to town & back for 2 cples will cost a total of $40. If you decide to get off enroute, getting back on is another $20/4. There doesn't seem to be any pass available but the Raro tourist board would be wise to look into that for visitors. That rate was a walk-in rate - didn't plan to rent so don't know if pre-booking would be cheaper.
One more tip - bring water sox. The approach to the beach is quite rocky & the sox helped get over that. Plus there are some large coral chunks that you might encounter while swimming or wading & they will protect your feet from the coral.

Liked best: Sitting on the deck watching the surf
Liked least: The fact that the water is non-potable. Not their fault - virtually the whole island is non-potable. The public water station (free) is just a short stroll away.

“Stunning views, great accommodations, helpful hosts - Ocean Spray has it all.”

We were uncertain if we should stay close to Avarua instead of the seemingly preferred Muri Beach. Muri is beautiful but the views from our villa were fabulous and the water was friendly. You need water shoes to get around the rocks and coral but we had no problems. The house is spacious, has everything you need, is tastefully decorated and clean. The housekeeper came by and changed sheets and brought clean towels which is unexpected for a weekly rental. It's a little further than I expected to walk downtown but not because the distance to town is far so much as Avarua is spread out along the water front a fair ways so getting from one end to the other is a bit of a walk, but the buses are handy.
Liana and Anton were both available, very accommodating and helpful. We had the opportunity to use the Muri Beach club for a swim when we were in Muri as they own this property as well, which was a nice bonus.
Stay here, you won't regret it!

“A Beautiful Holiday Home”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We shared this beautiful home with friends and had an amazing weeks stay. The surf was crashing on the reef just feet away and we were thrilled by the high rollers! The beach was great for walking but a bit shallow for swimming. We went to the lagoon for swimming. The house was spacious and well appointed and the linens were changed after two days. It was a bit difficult to find the driveway entrance as there is no sign and you access via a driveway shared with other homes.

My only cons for this lovely home is that the standard of cleanliness in the kitchen and bathrooms was fairly poor. There was dried on grease on the stove and side of the fridge and knife block and the microwave had not been cleaned before our arrival. The cupboard doors had not been cleaned in some time and were in desperate need of washing. The other thing that was a surprise was that the water was not potable and daily trips to the refill station were necessary.

An amazing place to stay! Big, bright and spotless. The view is breathtaking! Being right on the ocean was our own piece of paradise! The kitchen is very well stocked, beds are comfortable and bathrooms spotless! Would highly recommend a stay here!

“Amazing view, lots of space, modern and clean!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013 for a stay in October 2013

Pros:
The villa was very spacious, clean, modern and the location was amazing. Perfect for the 4 of us as we each had our own space and did not feel cramped over the 6 day visit. The glass doors in the dining area open up onto the terrace (with sunchairs and loungers) that overlooks the beach. The beach was only a few steps away literally, good for wading and taking a quick dip but too rocky and shallow to do real swimming. It's almost like your own private beach as there's hardly anyone around. The times we were out in the water, we saw maybe up to two people walking by for hours! The terrace was amazing for mid-afternoon naps.

Both Anton and Liana were very friendly. Anton was working on a new house next door so it was convenient whenever we had questions, all we had to do was step out the front door and yell over to him. Very accommodating.

Bedrooms had large beds (full/queen) and enough closet/storage for us to unpack and hang our clothing. The bathrooms were clean and modern, loved the shower heads, had constant hot water, and had good enough pressure.

We cooked a couple of dinners and breakfasts at the villa and they had everything we needed in terms of pots/pans/utensils, etc. They had speakers which we hooked up to our ipods to play music. We turned on the TV and only got two channels so we didn't watch any TV (which made it a true vacation for us!)

The house gets cleaned and linens get changed every few days so that was nice as we ended up tracking sand all over the place after our daily excursions to the beach and to town.

Avarua town is very close, within a 10 min walk or a 2 minute drive. We opted to rent a car and it was perfect for our group.

I loved this villa, you get more for your money than some of the more expensive hotels!

Cons:
This isn't the owners fault but there are roosters all over town and they constantly crow all day into the early evening. They start around 5:30-6am and some mornings I've heard them crowing every 5 minutes. That was disruptive to our sleep most mornings, but again, this isn't the owners fault. Just something everyone observed everywhere on the island.

Another thing we didn't anticipate was the building of a new home right next door to ours (by the same owners). On the days we opted to stay home to relax and didn't head out for excursions or sunbathing, it was a little tough to relax on the terrace when there was hammering and construction going on in such close proximity. They did try to keep the noise level down and they plan on finishing the house mid-november so those that are coming after that time should not encounter this.

“Right on the Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Stayed 4 nights, house comfortable all mod cons, stone throw away from the waters edge, handy to town, short walk to Tamarind House and fishing club. Walk out to reef in low tide, local fisherman net for fish straight out from house, dive boats and fishing boats pass regular so plenty to look at. A couple of gripes - louve window in bedroom leaked one night when we had heavy rain, and oven dirty hadn't been cleaned for sometime. Nice quiet location and all in all a pleasant place to stay - would recommend
