“Loved it for lunch”

Great simple salads for reasonable prices. Fast. Authentic. I would say a must eat downtown in Montivideo.

“Don't miss it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Only at noon, on weekdays. It's kind a legend in Montevideo: such good food in a place not very comfortable. And you can see the way these women cook, right in front of you. Desserts are a must

“Delectable Bistro-like Luncheonette”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

There is a wonderful little restaurant called “Estrecho” on Calle Sarandi in the Old City of Montevideo that is well worth a visit for lunch. The food is always fresh and reasonably priced. Check out the “Especial del Dia” , or daily special which makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The Thai Fish soup is outstanding, the Gaspacho is wonderful and the Filet Mignon could not be more flavorful or tender. Local bankers and antique store owners make this a regular lunch spot, so it’s often crowded, but always worth the wait. You will not regret a visit to this delectable bistro-like luncheonette in the heart of the quaint Old City.

“Fabulous Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012

What a unique concept to have the food prepared in front of you. There was such artistry in the preparation of the food that you were salivating before the food gets to you.

Great staff, Wonderful food, excellent setting what more could you ask for and oh yes the wine selection was delightful.

A must for anyone visiting Montevideo.

“Our best meal so far in South America”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

In Uruguay so far we've been tempted by lovely restaurants with views in sunny Colonia, but with the lowest marks I can give for service - waiters who avoided eye contact + made themselves look extremely busy without actually doing anything. We've had dinner in Montevideo Cuidad Viejo on Sunday night in one of the only restaurants open. We were glad to find somewhere to eat, that is all I can say. So Estrecho - immediate, attentive friendly service, complimentary delicious amuse bouches and a short menu where we wanted to order everything - was a welcome find. Watching the dishes being prepared was an event in itself. The combination of ingredients in each dish worked brilliantly - big smiles all round! Go!
