“Hadn't it been for the breakfast...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

This Holiday Inn is the worst Holiday Inn I have been at. Surely the chain should evaluate its member hotels and check the standards.
Well - one good thing was the breakfast menu - fresh and plenty of variety. Very good!
But then - WiFi is free, but absent. I was on the 6th floor and had to use a very low signal from the 4th floor as the Wifi on floors was absent. However , in the breakfast room on the groundfloor the Wifi was ok.
In the room - with a view of a neighbouring wall - there was no information of the hotel services. (More than on the roomservice) So when checking out i noticed the hotel has a swimmingpool. It could be good to have a folder in the room on what service the hotel offer.
Check in and check out was quick, however no recognition of me being a Ambassadeur Platinum member, no up grade of room, no benefits which you normally get in all other Holiday inn hotels ( except this one and Madrid Piramides) like a newspaper to the room, fruitplate and upgrade.
One sleeps well - bed was really good, but floor in the room was like walking on thin ice. I will not chose this hotel next time I'm back in Montevideo.

Dear Hans L,

Thank you for being a Priority Club Platinum Ambassador member and for posting a review of our property. I am so glad you liked the breakfast menu we have to offer to our guests in our hotel restaurant. Please allow me to apologize for the issues you had with our WiFi and the view from your room that did not live up to your expectations. I am also sorry we are not able to honor your Priority Club perks and apologize for the hotel services that affected your stay negatively. Your feedback is very important to us as this assists us in continually improving the services and facilities we have to offer to our guests. I made a reservation and canceled it on the net thru the Holiday Inn site. I stayed there 6 nights and they would not credit me the night I canceled and they billed to my account . They told me if I had called instead of doing it on the net they would not have billed me. I got ripped for $125 .The wireless never worked
I mentioned the reservation and they could not find it but it was made under my club points card . The walk up room rate is less than the rate published under the Holiday Inn website

Stayed here on Priority Club points so can't mention if it was value or not as don't actually know what a room costs. Rooms were big and comfortable. Service was good from all the staff - front desk, bar etc. Breakfast was pretty good as far as South American breakfasts go. Really well located hotel. Would stay again if I ever venture back to Montevideo.

If you're travelling to Montevideo on a business trip and need internet, avoid this hotel unless you want to install your office in the lobby. There is not access in the rooms.

Dear WALKMANSmyrna_Ga_,

I was disappointed to read your review following your recent stay with us. We do have hard wired internet access. Thank you again for your comments. Your business is valued and we hope your future travel plans will continue to include IHG properties.

Sincerely,

The Hotel is old. The rooms have been renovated but the feel of an old hotel remains. The room was really hot. You had to put a key card in to the card reader to turn the A/C on. If you left the key in to keep the air running the cleaning crew would take the key and turn the air off every time. You had to plan to get back mid afternoon to get the air cranking again. It took hours one night to get the temp. back down. The location is second to none. Beside the Casino and close to everything.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2012

We stayed at this property four nights from January 26 to 30, 2012. Having read other reviews which were quite negative, we arrived there with some trepidation. We arrived late in the evening and our initial look around the area seemed pretty unsavory. However, the following day the shops opened and the area appeared much more welcoming. The hotel staff were very approachable and helpful with directions when asked. The room was quite dated (old) but clean and comfortable. Our room had a nice king sized bed and the mini-bar had enough room to store some of our own food and drinks. The room also had a laminate floor which was better (and cleaner) than carpet. We didn't book the breakfast option as it seemed a little pricey, after seeing the breakfast buffet I was happy we had decided to do our own.
There are plenty of interresting things to see and do within walking distance of this hotel as well as numerous restaurants and shops. I would recommend this hotel so long as guests don't mind the older decor. I do not recommend the breakfast option unless it's free of charge.

Room Tip: Sign up for Priority Club. This is the chains loyalty program. We usually get upgraded to a better r...

Stayed here for 1 night each redeeming hotel points to bookend a trip to Uruguay. Excellent location. Area is busy on weekdays but very quiet on weekends. One block from Plaza Independencia, Theater Solis, and Presedential offices and great shopping/restaurants. Very close to Mercado del Puerto and the Ciudad Vieja as well. We arrived and left on the weekend and parking was easy and convenient. Front desk staff and security staff were superb English speakers and more than willing to help with any needs. Car parked securely underground for $6/night. Rooms are clean and spacious. Good selection of TV channels. I would return to this hotel again.
