“Bathrooms let this place down.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2013 via mobile

Good location, close to a big supermarket and a lot of restaurants, as well as the old town and seafront. Beach and park an easy walk away. Staff really friendly, comfy beds etc... But bathrooms were horrible - really smelly and unclean, water not hot. Breakfast was disappointing too - only small bits of bread with jam.

Hostel was in a good location, owners are crazy and fun, always up for putting the music on and having a beer or watching a game. I was there and had a jam with a few guys on the guitar.

The owner is very helpful and even walked us to a place to exchange money and walked us to a cheao resteraunt. All the staff were always happy and smiling and up for a good laugh.

Great location, close to the square and the beach although it was cold nd rainy when i was there.

derfinitely go to willy fogg. its cheap, comfortable and fun.

Excellent location, with a big supermarket less than a block away, bars and boliches within walking distance, as well as the coastal boardwalk and the plaza de independencia. I stayed with 5 other friends for 2 nights and paid USD13 per person per night, which was about the cheapest hostel we could find which didn't have terrible reviews. The interior of the hostel was decorated pretty eclectically, with a mix of hammocks, cushions in front of the tv and a spacious living area with high ceilings. There was a balcony where you could sit and relax. The linens smelled clean and fresh and there was air-conditioning in the room which helped to heat it up at night.

Best of all was the staff, who are all unbelievably relaxed and go out of their way to help you. They were happy to let us pay whenever was convenient, gave us recommendations for food and entertainment, even drank and went out with us one night, and let us stay in the room way past the official check-out time at 10am. The owner told us we could sleep in as long as we wanted without extra charge and even helped us reserve seats on the bus back to Colonia!

The only downsides were the showers which alternated between scalding hot and freezing cold, as well as the lack of effective central heating (probably due to the high ceilings) which meant the common areas were quite cold at night.

However, overall we had a marvelous experience there and would certainly recommend it!

The best thing about Willy Fogg is its location - a couple of blocks from both the sea as well as Plaza Independencia, the hostel is centrally-located. On Sundays, the neighborhood the hostel is in is very quiet, allowing for opportunities to cycle around the central district. Willy Fogg is also near a large supermarket.

Rooms are all air-conditioned, although wifi is only available in the common areas. Staff are friendly, even if most don't speak English, and do what they can to get you settled in.

That said, the hostel is a little run-down and scruffy. But if you can overlook that, Willy Fogg is a good choice. Breakfast is nothing to write home about and the hostel computers can be slow.

The staff is very friendly, the onwner is a great guy, but it's not enought. It's not that close to the tourist attractions in Montevideo, the price is not that cheap but the worst thing is the noise.

I don't know if it's the way the the hostel was built but you can ear everything that is talked in the hostel, Sure, when you stay in a hostel you're looking for friends and new experiencies, but it's almost imposible just relax and get some good night of sleep here.
