“You decide...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2010

Personally, i think this hostel is way down there and there must be better available for the price in Montevideo.

- Locks on lockers are laughable - little eyelets for you to put a padlock through that can be pulled out by hand.
- No hot water in the morning.
- Staff coming into our dorm at 2am, slamming the light on, and talking in full volume to new arrivals about the benefits of the hostel - totally thoughtless.
- SO LOUD! It doesnt matter which way your room faces, they have seating areas front and back and a bar in the middle open til 1am. People sat outside our window talking and drinking til at least 2 or 3am both days.
- No locks on the room doors at all.
- Windows on all rooms are left open all night and day so the rooms are full of mosquitos.
- Only one of the 4 showers is actually useable, the others drip or have no shower head connection.
- I wish there had been something other than coffee (drinks wise) for breakfast.. but thats just a personal thing.. i think there should always be an option for people who dont drink it.

- Apart from the woman who barged into our room at 2am, the staff are actually lovely and very helpful.
- The hostel is spotlessly clean and the staff work very hard to keep it that way.
- There are lots of outside areas to sit and meet people. (A positive if youre not the one trying to sleep!)

The Hostel is very good, not too expensive. The accommodations were nice, very good beds to sleep. There were 3 bathrooms, with heating system, which is very good in the cold and windy winter. My only complain is the Kitchen, too small and it didn't have enough kitchenware for doing basic stuff. The peolpe there were nice, helpful and always happy! As for the location, I really like it because it was close to everything I needed, includind Universidad de la Republica. It's not located in the very center of Montevideo, but for sure there's a lot of bus stops near the hostel that will lead you everywhere.

Very small rooms. NO locks on doors. "Lockers" in rooms are simple wooden boxes with eyehole screws twisted into the wood to attach a lock (can be ripped out). Kitchen is tiny. Hostel is fully occupied by the family that runs it - and they overtake the entire kitchen/dining and TV area. Showers had absolutely no pressure (took 10 mins to wash out shampoo from my hair). Sure it is close to the 'beach' > which you can not swim in due to the pollution and lovely brown colour. No powerpoints in the rooms. Not in the least bit social although we tried to talk to a lot of other guests. Would *never* complain about places but this is the worst hostel i have ever stayed in.
