“Touristy but well worth the visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

We arrived for dinner expecting the tourist treatment but we were impressed. The Parrillada was excellent quality, infact it was the finest we have had in Uruguay so far. We also had the ensalada Mediterranean which was very good and the dessert 'candombe' is worth saving space for.

“Thoughtful and friendly service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2012

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful dinner at El Peregrino. It's the end of the summer season, a time when most tourist attractions can't bear the thought of serving another foreign tourist (i know from working in Whistler), but the care and attention that we received tonight was nothing less than stellar - even after what I'm sure was a long Saturday market day that the owner and staff had just experienced. Muy bien. Muchos gracias.

“Taste Uruguayan Meat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2012

The "parrillada" is certainly the speciality of the house. They are really good at this. You may also compare the quality of our meat. I can assure you will not be dissapointed

“average experience...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2012

El Peregrino is a restaurant located on the Mercado, in front of the Port of Montevideo. We were on a Ship Cruise, so it was a convenient place to us... Prices are not cheap or very expensive. We asked for a Parrillada, but we were a little disapointed, the meats were not really good, we expected more... Other persons in our group, who asked for steaks, had better experience. The Service is very gentle and not slow. Tip: ask for an Uruguayan Pilsen beer, which is served on the right temperature...

“Excellent service - nice atmosphere - high prices - poor quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2011

We visited El Peregrino on an April evening and were happy about the friendly waiter and the cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately the food didn't keep up with this first impression and the high prices of the menu. We were especially disappointed about the meat quality. Our "Picanha" was simply tough.
