“Excellent service - nice atmosphere - high prices - poor quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2011

We visited El Peregrino on an April evening and were happy about the friendly waiter and the cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately the food didn't keep up with this first impression and the high prices of the menu. We were especially disappointed about the meat quality. Our "Picanha" was simply tough.

“If only Julio knew what he was serving us”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2010 via mobile

At 10 pm, choices were surprisingly limited. (we were in from Buenos Aires) We were so relieved to find an open restaurant and Julio our server was so welcoming, we totally let our guard down. The paella was so bland, I had to doctor it w mayo, salt and lemon. The quality of the sirloin was disappointing as were the dried out purée de papa. To top it off, this meal was not cheap. Don't be fooled by the amuse bOuche or the free tiny shot glasses of champagne.

“Typical "a la parilla" food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2010

Typical touristic restaurant in a charming atmosphere at montevideo puerto. Local dishes well served. Ask for medio y medio (alcoholic drink) and boniato glaceado (local baked sweet potato with caramelized sugar-delicious!!). All sorts of meats (BBQ style).
10% off if you pay cash.
Not cheap comparing with other non-touristic restaurants, but it worths the price.
Say hello to Fabio (waiter) wich was very friendly!

“Beatiful restaurant near harbor with outstanding service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2010

Beautiful restaurant near Harbor. Staff was outstanding and went out of their way.
My beef ribs were a little hard but my friend felt the fish was devine. Spoke enough Engliosh to get the job done.

“Best Lamb Chops!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2010

We arrived by cruise ship and walked to the Mercado to check out the many rows of vendors with barbecued meats inside the Mercado and the smells and looks of the meats were awesome. We decided to sit outside at El Peregrino Restuarant and watch the tourists and locals walk by. We enjoyed a leisurely 2 hour lunch with European style service.
Bread rolls with butter and churasco sauce (tomatoes and onions in oil) with bread sticks were served before we ordered our meals. My husband ordered a rum and coke and the rum was poured from a bottle to a silver pitcher and then into his glass. Very classy! They served plenty of ice for the drinks.
We had the feast for 2 including barbecued lamb chops (juicy and tender),ribs, sirlion steak and pork roast over green and red peppers, onions marinated in a vinegarette sauce. It was served in a cast enamel pan with warm coals underneath to keep everything warm. The meats were succulent and delicious!
Total cost was $120 including 2 rums and 3 Pepsi and the huge amount of food. It was a destination dining experience with professional waiters and first class service.
We would definately return to dine there again.
