“Beautiful hotel in a former monastery”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

This beautiful hotel in a former monastery has been booked on our behalf via our travel agency. We received a beautiful room which was like small duplex appartement. The king size bed was on the upperfloor, the living area and the bathroom were downstairs. Everything was very well equipped and extremely clean. We were very sorry that we had to stay there only one night. The receptionist and the kitchen staff were very friendly. The evening meal in the hotel restaurant and the breakfast were excellent. The coca tea was always available.

Room Tip: Our room was in the main building

This hotel is definitely beautiful but the rooms are not as great as the general ambience, hence my 4-star rating. The bed was very small; there's no way to avoid having the shower flood the bathroom floor, and the cable had no English channels. The dinner we had we pretty good but not great. The breakfast was excellent, however.

Just stayed overnight. Lovely setting and interesting architecture and a very serene, peaceful atmosphere. In the morning there was a brief water outage but it came back on again. Enjoyed the stay because of the gardens and setting.

The maid service picks up your towels in the morning, the you don't get them back till the afternoon since they are washing them....only one set....beds are hard as rocks....the shower feel like a fire hose sometimes and other times like a drip... If you want a cheap place stay here otherwise there are more options and much better.

A great quiet hotel with splendid gardens and very friendly staff. The restraunt was well appointed and although the bar was not often managed a quick call to reception had somebody appearing to serve the thirsty customers. A good location and well worth the tours into the salt mines and Moray circle. We were slightly unfortunate as this was a national holiday in Peru and staffing was minimal, but friendly and coutreous.

Room Tip: Just make sure they have hot water at ALL times. There was a feeling that an energy saving system wa...

We almost had the whole hotel to ourselves. because it was out of season. Hotel is in a private dirt road, secluded in well kept garden.Building is very impressive and staff very friendly. We wanted to see Maras Salt mines and Moray circle labs by Urubamba and this hotel was very well located for it.We paid 130 soles for a taxi journey to the above sites, taxi driver waited while we visited the sites and took us back to our hotel (4 hours all together). If you arrange your own taxi you can bargain the price down.Hotel had a very nice Restaurant nad well recommended.Rooms are very nice and the stay was very relaxing.

A stay at San Agustin Monasterio de la Recoleta Hotel in Peru's Sacred Valley is a trip to the past. The hotel is in a modified former monastery with small bedrooms and even smaller bathrooms. No space to spread out here. The beds are reasonably comfortable and the place was clean, but you still felt like Friar Tuck was going to reclaim his room at any moment. There was dim lighting both in the room and in the maze of wings outside. The TV in the rooms did not carry any English language channels, something I've come to expect even on a boat floating down the Nile. This was particularly unfortunate because our tour group was staying there on the evening of the first 2012 presidential debate. The buffet breakfast was minimal and, as with most hotels on our Peruvian itinerary, the scrambled eggs were served cold.

On the bright side, there was a very nice lounge where we could gather in the evening for a round of Pisco sours and very tasty snacks. A constant supply of cocoa tea was available in the lobby. The grounds, in a very wooded mountain setting, were very well kept and inviting to browse in. The monastery's original beautiful chapel is still open and in use.
