“Great Spot in Sacred Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2009

What a great hotel and location. My wife and I stayed here during a 3-day tour of Sacred Valley. All rooms are in separate bungalows, surrounded by lush vegetation. The restaurant served top notch food and wine list was decent. The spa seemed first rate, but we never got there.

Sol y Luna is a nearly magical place. The setting is a total delight, with flowers everywhere. The wonderful bungalows are both lovely and peaceful. One aspect of the inn about which I have not read much previously, but which deserves great praise, is the excellent restaurant. The chef uses many local ingredients to craft an imaginative and entirely delicious menu, served in the warm and comfortable setting of the rustic but elegant dining room. The meals at Sol y Luna were the best we had in Peru (and we stayed - and ate - at the Country Club Hotel in Lima, Sanctuary Lodge at Machu Picchu, and the Monasterio in Cusco, all of which have great restaurants). Finally, the owner's dog is the perfect ambassador for the inn.

A suggestion while you are in the Sacred Valley is to visit the studio and shop of Seminario Ceramicas in Urubamba. They had the best ceramics we found anywhere in Peru. You will see a lot of their work around Sol y Luna.

We spent two nights in Sol y Luna and loved it. The privacy of the individual bungalow, the breakfast and dinner meals, gardens, service, and free internet were all great. The fireplace in the dining room was particularly nice as it got cool in the evening. Very safe and secure feeling as well.

I spent only one night at the Sol y Luna after completing the Inca Trail. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. The gardens were magnificent, the dining fantastic and the bungalows were truly amazing. One night was not long enough and I promised I would return again with my husband for a relaxing and revitalizing retreat.

Just spent 2 days at the Sol y Luna, Urubamba before moving on to Macchu Piccu. A stunning location in the Sacred Valley, with huge bungalows in the midst of magnificent gardens. Great breakfasts overlooking the pool and a superb restaurant serving amazing Peruvian food. Fantastic value! We had Jaime Infante drive and guide us through the Valley, Pisac , the Ruins and so much more...an amazing guy...j[--]

Sol y Luna is gorgeous, the staff is friendly and thoughtful, and there is a great deal to do! This is a great base camp for heading to Machu Picchu, or a great place to spend a quiet, relaxing few days.

We actually stayed at Sol y Luna for five days. The rooms are clean and nicely appointed. The restaurant is phenomenal and the continental breakfast among the best I've ever had. We rode Paso horses, tried traditional regional fare from the excellent kitchens, used the saunas and gym, and traveled to the ruins at Ollantaytambo from here. Oh, and we just relaxed outside in the gorgeous gardens with the hummingbirds.

The owners, staff, and everything is wonderful about this place if you don't mind rather rustic environs outside your hotel/resort. It will be even more phenomenal when the new area is completed.

This was my favorite hotel in all of my three week stay in Peru which included the Sanctuary Lodge at Machu Picchu. I am a solo, female traveler in my 30's and the people at the hotel could not have been more helpful or pleasant. I spent a half day solo horseback riding here and one day at the spa. The horses are beautiful and well maintained. As I was alone, the servers, staff and bartenders, paid special attention to me, describing the dishes on the menu, engaging me in conversation, answering questions about the area, giving me a history of Pisco, etc . .It really was lovely and tranquil. I couldn't have been more pleased! Rooms were beautiful and clean, enjoyed sitting on my porch reading with a glass of wine. Stunning property!
