“A Garden of Eden in the Sacred Valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2008

My husband and I felt we had found paradise when we walked into the gardens of Sol & Luna for a two night stay in the Sacred Valley.
The immaculate care given to the breathtaking gardens and environment are quite evident. There is a ranch at the lodge which was awesome and we would defnintely recommend additional nights to take advantage of those gorgeous Peruvian horses which we were lucky to observe one afternoon while touring the property.

The pictures on the web and brochures do not do it justice; but most importantly to us was beneath all the beauty and serenity of the sacred valley was a layer that is not discussed here very much. The staff was totally intune to us from the moment we walked into the lovely courtyard. Smiles were everywhere, from the ever present gardeners to the reception area to the bar and on the the very good restaurant (so good we ate there both nights)
I have read the few negative reports on trip advisor, and I am wondering where those folks were staying. It was not at the Sol & Luna that I experienced. The breakfast was great; got us through the days of "ruins and markets" and just enjoying the sights within the valley. The evenings were gorgeous by a fire in the restaurant with service and food to match the surroundings.

Most importantly though I want to emphasize the pre-trip arrangements, emails, advice and thorough follow-up by Gabriella, the Assistant Manager. We did not book through a tour group; we travelled on our own and Gabriella's continual assistance after the initial booking and thoughtful gestures (ie. obtaining the Peru Rail tickets for me months in advance) was such an integral part of our sucessful Peru experience.
Gabriella is from Cusco; extremely proud of her country, and eager for everyone to experience Peru through Sol & Luna with a smile. She definitely came through for us and I would return just to stay and enjoy the ranch, spa and of course seeing Gabriella's expressive smile.

I wish I could have met the owners to find out more of how they obtained this beautiful spot in Peru; and to complement them on maintaining such a beautiful lodge. Unfortunately they were not there; but I am hoping that everyone will at least go by and see this little spot of paradise in the Sacred Valley. And when you do; you will see why we adored this Garden of Eden in Peru.

It was an incredible visit.Exqusite property and truly amazing views.Geat for families and also ideal for couples, very romantic setting.Good for family activities like horse back riding, mountain biking and white water rafting. The calibre of the spa was also excellent as was the food.I still remember the quality of food fabulous. Takes organic and pure to another level. Also impressive wine list.Highly recommended.

From the moment you step out of your car (sent by the hotel to pick you up no less) you are in complete awe of the surroundings. I have never stayed anywhere with a more beautiful location. Gabrielle and the rest of the staff are most accommodating. The individual bungalows are very charming. We had the family suite which was perfect for us. I traveled with two children ages 8 and 10. Sol y Luna was the highlight of their trip. We traveled to Machu Picchu from this hotel and also went white water rafting and horseback riding. The spa technicians were fantastic as well. I went twice and would have gone a third time during our three night stay if I could have made it work.

This is the ONLY place to stay!

The only part of my 9 day trip I would have changed is that I would have gone to the Sol y Luna first -- got acclimated to the altitude and then stayed in Cuzco and traveled to the rain forest.

Mucho Gracias Sol Y Luna.

We loved staying at Sol y Luna Hotel! The bungalow was great and the gardens were beautiful! And this wasn't even high season! We ate 2 out of 3 dinners at the hotel and the food was outstanding! We don't get lamb here in Bogotá, so having some great lamb was a rare treat. We had to do it twice. We would definitely stay at Sol y Luna again and would highly recommend it to anyone!

  • Liked — The beauty of the whole valley
  • Disliked — The upper floor of our bungalow was really not very usable and had no views.

We stayed for 2 nights in August 07 on a family holiday ( kids 7 and 11). The setting is fantastic lovely well kept grounds with great views of the mountains. The rooms are bungalows scattered throughout the grounds. We had 2 seperate bungalows as we had been told there were no family rooms - subsequently found out there were ( could have been the travel agents fault). The rooms are comfortable and large with a nice bathrooms and shower.

What lets the hotel down is the detail. The bar lacked atmosphere and the staff were not interested in serving. Internet access was restricted to 1 computer ( free and not an issue for us as we were on holiday). We eat in the restaurant on both nights and found the service poor - our orders were wrong on both nights, the menu restricted and pricey. Braekfast was poor with a limited choice buffet.

Overall the setting is fantastic but the detail lets things down.A shame as there is much to commend this hotel

We were part of an A&K group, visiting for the day, which included lunch, a demonstration of the Peruvian Paso horses, and a spiritual demonstration by a local Shaman.

The resort is just beautiful, with perfectly manicured grounds, many flowers, and in a lovely setting. The buildings on the property are first rate, and the spa is especially impressive. We had an authentic lunch served, which was delicious. The staff was attentive, and the food was excellent.

The Paso horse demonstration was interesting and fun. We then could actually ride the horses, ourselves. My wife loved it. The gift shop is not to be missed. We liked the pottery, and again, the staff, who are so friendly, and professional.

We will plan to visit again, and encourage you to visit yourself.

Nice clean rooms, individual cottages set in pleasant gardens. Convenient location to stay as it avoids a really long journey from Cusco to Macchu Picchu in one day and allows time in the Sacred Valley. We only stayed one night as I guess most people would.

Didn't see too much of the area or any of the hotel activities, though the facilities were a bit limited. No TV in our room, there was internet access in the bar but this wasn't working. It also took a while to get any service in the bar. Food was fairly pricey by local standards, witth a fairly narrow range - presumably they have a captive audience as there isn't much else in the area.

To summarise the hotel is in a convenient location in an attractive setting, but the overall experience was not as good as many others we stayed at during this holiday.
