I had read so many good and bad reviews of Gringo Bill's that I just had to see it for myself. We spent two nights here and in my opinion, it was adequate for our needs. If I could plan the trip again, I would only have spent one night in Aguas Calientes, not because of the hotel, but because there just wasn't a good reason for us to spend as much time there as we did.
Our room was clean, the beds were comfortable, the breakfast was adequate, the staff was available when needed, the shower had plenty of hot water. If you are fortunate to get a room with a view, the mountains are magnificent. Aguas Calientes can be a damp place in early May and it appeared that the staff at the hotel was trying to do what they could to keep the rooms aired out and dry. The hot tub and small pool were empty but we were not going to use them anyway. I was told by a restaurant manager in the plaza that the hot springs at the opposite end of the Ave Pachacutec are worth visiting if you are looking to do that.
The location of Gringo Bill's is pretty good. A few steps out the door and you will find yourself in a nice plaza in one of the better parts of this small town. While we were there we observed a couple of statues being restored, children going to/leaving school and found the best cup of coffee (S/5) all within the square. The restaurant with the good coffee has one of the most expansive menus I saw on our entire trip.
The WiFi signal at Gringo Bill's is weak. I suggest you go across the plaza to the coffee shop and enjoy their brew while using their WiFi.
If I needed to stay in Aguas Calientes, I would stay at this hotel again.
