“Spectacular views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

Peru is earning big money with the Inca-heritage at Machu Picchu. So are the railroad companies with these trainrides. Because it is the only way to het to the place the traintickets are way and way overpriced, but eventually worth it.

The views are very good.

“Beautiful views...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

This train trip was truly spectacular....if you are expecting plush seats and a dining car, readjust your attitude...the train is not terribly comfortable but you don't even notice because the scenery is so spectacular....the river rushes along below you and the valley is spectacular. Every now and then you pass hikers on the Inca Trail....I was happy we were taking the train!

“A really good way to get to Machu Picchu”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

We actually went from Ollantaytambo Station and returned there, as there are currently problems between Aqua Calientes and Cusco that mean a disrupted trip with a bus ride in between.
The Vista Dome train offers good views on both sides and through the glass roof. The stately pace of the train enables the views to be fully appreciated. At times the train has to stop in a side loop to allow the train in the other direction to pass, as there is only a single track.
With all the glass and reflections around, it is great for looking, but not so good for photography. The sights are varied with snow capped mountains, raging rivers, fields and terraces under cultivation. We were presented with a nice fresh mid-morning snack, which went down well. Going there the staff were doing fairly high pressure sales techniques to try to persuade you to buy hats, coats and other souvenir buys related to the forthcoming Machu Picchu Visit. Coming back it was a fashion show with attractive, but very expensive Peruvian knitwear. There was also a surprise entertainer!
In a way it was quite like travelling on a plane, because of the minimum 30 minute check in and the showing of ID (passports in our case).
There is very little luggage space on the train, so our main suitcases had to be sent separately onto Cusco. We only had "cabin" luggage and that was all there was space for.
This was relaxing and a good way to take in part of the Urubamba area.
There are at least three classes of trains and this is the middle one. I was pleased with the choice.

“Great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

I took this train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes after completing the Lares trek. It is a very comfortable modern train with a complementary snack service. The way to Aguas Calientes in the evning, we were given a small sandwichand choice of drink. On the way back the following day, we got some small cake snacks. Cervezas were 6sol. there is a bathroom on board aswell. Views along the route through the cloud forst are fantastic.

“Marvelous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2013

I am currently in North America and wanted to visit South American. I chose Peru for its Machu Picchu. One of the best choice I have ever made. The only bad thing is I couldn't stay there for longer! Nice people nice food. Andes Highland is extremely beautiful. For Machu Picchu... it is beyond any word. Extremely marvelous.
