“Overpriced & careless staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2012

We checked in at the one next to starbucks. Location is great, everything else sucks. Towels were really dirty, no water pressure on the shower, internet doesnt work, noisy, cats all over the place (even in 3rd floor). Said told us we wouldnt pay for breakfast as we had an early flight (forgot to call taxi as well) but wrote us down for original price and ended up paying it, which is way overrated for Peru understandings and services provided.

Great team in a great hostel. There's a bar, a pool table, a living room and the rooms and bathrooms are clean enough.

Can't ask for more.

We stayed here for 6 nights, good kitchen, rooms are pretty clean, ours was quite spacious, the free wifi was a bit hit and miss in the room, but pretty good for the most part in the common areas. The location is perfect, from our window we looked onto the main square of Mira Flores, but that had a massive down side as the noise from the street and park was quite loud into the wee hours. Our room was at the reception so could hear everone coming and going, and on the otherside was the bar which was loud at times. I slept with earplugs in most nights, but I'd imagine the rooms towards the back are much better. If you can put up with the noise, it's not a bad place to stay. The staff are helpful, breakfast is included (which was pretty good considering) and the price is right.

Room Tip: Maybe try for a room towards the back for less noise

We reluctantly stayed at Flying Dog Hostel for 10 days while waiting to find alternative accommodation. For the most part the staff were okay and helpful at times, but the rooms were less than average. If you get tired of the hot and loud rooms at the front of the hostel, you can opt to move to the back where you will encounter an interesting range of wildlife including mammoth mosquitoes in your room at night, and cats that somehow get in every night and start to fight one another at 4am. The fleas that they bring in with them also make this a perfect jungle experience. The wifi is average, you need to sit on a red couch to be able to connect to it and hold your body in strange positions. Location is good, but there are better alternatives around the same area with probably less cats.

Having entrusted the hostel with my bags, I had many items stolen (camera, lenses, headphones, money). After their investigation, they decided that these items were stolen on a bus.
Their policy is that the door where bags are stored securely is locked and accessed under supervision, when we collected our bags, we were told to 'just go on in as the door is open' (and I could have easily taken from other bags there).
I can accept things get stolen, but to be told that this could not possibly be their fault is unbelievable.

We moved to this hostel after a bad experience with the hostel across the road (Pariwana - too noisy and unfriendly). Flying dog is a little pricey but you get a discount card if you stay more than once (which we did) and the location is excellent - next door to the best sandwich shop I have ever visited. The rooms are light, well ventilated and quiet - which is just what you need to escape the bustling city. The breakfast was served in a nearby cafe - beats the other hostels breakfasts of bread and jam hands down. Good wifi, clean beds and big clean bathrooms. A very quiet hostel. Good if you want to relax, but not the best place to socialise.

Room Tip: Both dorms are light and quiet

I stayed here two weeks ago for one night and a girl in my dorm (3) found a bed bug, was a bit worried so we changed rooms left the next day and was fine. Have come back two weeks later thinking it was just a one off and was put in the same dorm and guess what I find in my
bed? Yep a bed bug, took it to reception and the guy tries to convince me it's not what I think and it's actually a chincha which isn't bad. I show him a picture on Wikipedia which says bed bugs and chinchas are the same. He then carried on squirming like a bed bug making up more lies instead of doing something about it! Anyway in a nutshell in helpful staff that like many peruvians like to avoid telling you the truth when there's something to hide.

On top of that only one computer was working and no staff seemed to care about getting the other fixed, the toilet/bathroom wasn't cleaned in over two days meaning used toilet paper overflowing the bins.

Flying dog Arequipa was great but Lima is terrible. Avoid like the plague!
