We did not stay in Lima long (June 2004). In fact, we were in the Leon de Oro two nights upon arriving in Peru and one night before leaving (with Cusco and Maccu Picchu in between). But the Leon de Oro was nice and the staff was friendly. It seemed to be fairly well located, as driving to any other location did not take long. There are shops and restuarants within walking distance. And don't be afraid of the neighborhood, it is actually pretty nice for Lima. The rooms were nice and clean and of reasonable size. The staff was polite and helpful and they have an Internet connection in the lobby. All in all, a pretty nice place.
