We are SPG members and booked a Romance Package (yes you can still have romance when you are older!) which consisted of Classic Sea view, sweet sleeper bed, high speed Internet for a fee, turndown service, newspaper, full american breakfast plus a bottle of wine and cheese plate in room once per stay. Even though they (that is their computer) had sent a couple of e-mails telling us how much they were looking forward to us staying with them when we arrived the reception had no idea that we had booked a special package with the inclusions. In fact I don’t think that she knew the hotel offered such a thing. After discussions with, I suppose, her supervisor we were assured that all was fine.

The room was large and on a high level but no sea view because of the constant fog that we found out blankets Lima this time of the year, and no surprise that there was no cheese and wine awaiting us. After three phone calls and a visit to reception to see the duty manager, who of course could not be found, a gentleman on reception, I am sorry but I can’t remember his name, promised that the missing treats would appear the next day which they did, many thanks to him if he ever reads this.

I know that South America runs on tipping but we were blown away to be ASKED for a tip by a waiter at breakfast when it was a buffet breakfast and we had served ourselves – he should have been giving us a tip! The hotel had two restaurants the standard lobby all day affair and a Gourmet Restaurant serving Peru specialties which we were looking forward to trying on our last evening in Lima. Can you believe it but it does not open in the evening for dinner only lunchtime.

The hotel itself is large and sole less with a “seen better days” feel to it. You can get the feel of the place as you arrive and see the finger marked front glass doors, no one seems to care. If this was a similar hotel in Asia the doors would be spotless. No thanks would not stay here again.

The Sheraton are located in the heart of historic Lima. When you are going out for sightseeing in daytime the hotel is in walking distance from the most interesting sights. I didn't encounter any problems during my stay at the Sheraton, and I didn't find the location inconvenient either, as some people here have concerns about. If you are careful and look after your belongings - just like everywhere else - I don't think you will suffer from the location of this hotel. In the evening, you should use a taxi, which the bellboy happily flags down for you. The hotel is about 10-15 minutes ride from Miraflores, and shouldn't cost more than 2-3 USD. Taxis are cheap and plentiful.

Everything during my two recent stays went smoothly, check-in was efficient. The room was large and okey, typically Sheraton - a little bit tired though. There was only modem-connections in the rooms, but at least this service was free of use. The tv had a great selection of channels. The beds were great. Breakfast had a huge selection of food, which was great. Every room has a balcony. The food at the hotel was good and inexpensive (remember this is Peru). The employees and the service they provide is excellent. They put a smile on everything they do. I didn't see one single grumpy face during my two stays.

Overall, I think this is a great find - I paid about 70 USD per night, inclusive breakfast - which was a great bargain. The JW Marriott in Miraflores is a nice hotel, but they charge average 250 USD per night. Sheraton is a hotel for those who wants 5 star services in a 4 star hotel for under 100 USD. I would return to this hotel anytime!

This hotel is badly located, what can be a problem in Lima as taking cabs is always an adventure. Either you need to risk the street cabs or pay a lot for the hotel taxi. It is close to the Cathedral and one could easily walk there, but it is too dangerous to walk in the city center, so it is better to take a cab. The hotel is old, but clean and well maintained. The room is big enough and the bathroom is good. Overall the staff is friendly but do not receive bad feedbacks nicely. The free internet is dial up and the paid internet does not seem to be any different regarding speed. I would choose a different hotel for this price.

On a 15 day trip to Peru, I stayed at the Sheraton in Lima for 2 nights before my trip to Cusco. The Hotel is up to US Standards but don’t leave the Hotel. I cannot say I experienced or witnessed any crime but I did feel uneasy stepping out after dark. My fiancés' relatives advised not to go after dark as the Center of Lima is unsafe after dark.

I preferred my stay In Mira Flores or Barranco. If you need a place to stay before catching a flight I suggest Miraflores, the trip is from 10 – 20 soles depending on the driver you get. $3- $7 US.

“Decent hotel, Bad location and smell”

Sheraton Lima Hotel & Convention Center

The hotel itself was pretty nice and on par with Sheratons in other major cities. The room was clean and well appointed, but absolutely reeked of smoke. The desk staff was very helpful in booking tours and transportation. Restaraunt was excellent. I would not stay in Central Lima next time; Miraflores is much nicer and traveler friendly. The Sheraton's central Lima location was within easy walking distance to several nice sites including the Presidential Palace and Cathedral de Assisi. I would not feel safe going out in that area at night. Go to Miraflores instead. There are nice hotels with ocean views there and lots of good restaraunts/ places to go outside of the hotel. Plus, you won't have to lock yourself in at night.
