This is the only reasonable hostel that we could find that was in Central Lima instead of Miraflores. The location is great, halfway between Plaza San Martin and El circuito magico del agua (less hokey than it sounds). There's a big mall with a supermarket in it 2 blocks away, and lots of delicious street food immediately outside the hostel.
The location is relatively safe as long as you stay on the main streets. We felt fine day and night as the streets are filling with young professionals and students, as well as a reasonable number of traffic/tourist police.
The rooms were not quite as amazing as the pictures online, but very reasonable.
Our only complaint was that the hostel was very noisy and very young. And this isn't even a real downside; some people will really enjoy the atmosphere, but we were tired and wanted to sleep. Even the staff was very young (I think they probably hire backpackers), so they weren't always knowledgable about the area.
