On a small street near Kennedy Park, it is possible to walk past Mama Lola without noticing its unimposing exterior. The inside, however, feels more as a trattoria in Italy than most I have visited outside of that country. The long and narrow main dining room is generously but tastefully decorated in a pleasant and rambling casalingo style. Along the short wall, the glassware hanging from and adorning the small bar further compliments the style. On the four occasions during the recent few years in which I have dined here, the service and food have been consistently very good. Although service in Peruvian restaurants is quite good in general, here it seems as if the staff has had that extra bit of professional training that many Italian waiters receive. The attentive and helpful service fits nicely with the atmosphere of the place. The pizza here is very good and approaches the neapolitan standard. I've ordered pizza three out of my four visits. The thoughtful wine list has several Italians which I haven't seen elsewhere in Lima. The relaxed ambience and very good food are well worth the visit.
