“Comfortable Stay, Enjoyed the Restaurant, Helpful Staff, Safe Neighborhood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

We were very happy to stay there. It is a very comfortable place to stay in a quiet, safe neighborhood. The food at the restaurant was very good and the hotel staff were very helpful. They always had staff that spoke english to accommodate those of us who spoke very little Spanish.

May not be the place to stay if you want to be near lots of excitement, but if you want peace and quiet, Peru Star is great. Cab rides to the old downtown area and to Miraflores were very reasonable.

Our family of four stayed here for the last three nights of a two-week vacation in Peru. Our suite was very comfortable, nicely furnished and well laid out. The kitchen was perfect for a quick lunch and it was nice to have a refrigerator to keep some of Peru's wonderful fruit for snacks.
The courtyard/pool area was a nice oasis for our high school and college daughters to relax and get some Peru summer sun while my husband and I did some sightseeing in the city. Overall, I would rate the hotel very highly. Our only minor complaint would be that the breakfast is very slow, so leave lots of time if you plan to eat there in the am.
Staff was very helpful and would go out of their way to make suggestions, travel arrangements, etc.

Room Tip: The suites are on the upper floor and very quiet.

Since it was our first trip to Lima, and I was not sure what kind of accommodations exist and where which part of town would work for a three day stay. I chose This hotel because it got very good reviews. We were arriving at night and Peru Star Apartments had a pick up service. On their website it says $20. In reality it was $27. I was willing to pay the extra to be safe, but in hindsight, I think they charge too much for this service.

The apartment was very nice with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Great hot water and modern bathroom and furniture. Breakfast was not included in our booking (through booking.com), but we were told that if booked through the hotel, breakfast would have been included. I had breakfast one morning at the hotel for Sl 12 which was better than the breakfast we found a few blocks away. The staff are very friendly. There is a nice garden in back with a small pool. We did not see anyone using it, but the area is nicely kept and very pretty.

On the down side, San Isidro is very clean and safe, but that is all I can say for it. Very little around the hotel except banks and grocery stores. After our first day touring in Central Lima, I was sorry I didn't find a hotel there. We took cabs in each day which was not expensive but there is a lot of traffic, so it takes time.

To summarize, if you are interested in Lima as a destination for food and nightlife, this is probably not for you. If you are in Lima as a sightseer for a few days of taking in museums and the architecture of Central Lima, this is a good choice if you are willing to cab it back and forth. No need to use the pick up service though. You can get a cab at the airport for much cheaper.

This was the nicest place we stayed in Peru (out of 6 different hotels over 2 weeks). We much preferred this over the JW Marriott in Miraflores. Although far from the touristy attractions (if you are walking), this hotel is safe, quiet, charming and the staff are very friendly. The breakfast was great and the kitchen was great for boiling water. We will stay here on all our return trips!

Room Tip: I recommend a kitchen!

We LOVED this place. Nice staff, quiet, beautiful place, covered in bougainvillea. Our room was equipped with a little stereo, a pseudo-kitchenette and many more comforts that would make it a great spot for a longer stay.
We used their transport to and from the airport and the driver was super nice.
Pros:
Beautiful
Very safe neighborhood
Nice staff
Good (included) breakfast
Very good price for what you get
Good wifi
Hot water on demand

Cons:
A good distance from the other neighborhoods you might want to visit. You'll need to take a cab or collectivo to get to Miraflores, Barranco or the center of the city.

In my view, this was worth it. The first time we were there we stayed in Lima, we stayed in Miraflores at a highly recommended spot and paid nearly 2 times as much for a room that was in no ways comparable. Not as clean, not as nice, not as many comforts, not as good of wifi, weirder hot water situation. Even with multiple cab fares, we still paid less to stay in this lovely spot.

Peru Star is a charming family-run hotel in a quiet residential neighborhood that is nevertheless quite close to the more happening areas of Lima like Barranco and Miraflores. It's quite easy to get a cab (which the front desk is happy to call for you) and zip off to another neighborhood.

The hotel is eclectic and has a homey, but upscale, feel. It's rather like being the houseguest of a posh friend.

I was really sad to leave the Peru Star Apartments at the end of my trip. This family-run, boutique hotel, has all the charm of a B&B with the privacy of a hotel with self-serving suites. The neighborhood was very upscale and all key amenities were within walking distance. My room was absolutely massive - a full kitchen, refrigerator, dining room table, sitting room, and spacious bedroom. The finishing touches like the gorgeous wall art, key fobs, and bed linens helped me never forget the beautiful culture I was visiting! I felt very comfortable and relaxed throughout my stay. The superb use of outdoor space was great for enjoying the beautiful weather. The staff answered absolutely ANY questions I had about visiting Lima and also arranged my wonderful airport transportation. Be sure not to miss the delicious home-made authentic Peruvian food at the hotel's restaurant, Papas y Camotes!

Room Tip: Splurge for one of the suites - you'll be amazed at what luxury you can afford for your money!
