“Good place to be in Lima”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2012 via mobile

It's a hostel, so nothing great to say about the double room we staying in - clean but solidly average and not brilliantly comfortable. The reasons to stay here are twofold, and are compelling. First of all the environment of the place is relaxing and slightly eccentric - perfect to lock yourself away from the streets of Lima and relax. Secondly, and most importantly, Francis the owner gives you a great briefing on Lima, what to see and do and how to do it. His self-photocopied map hilariously coloured in its multiple highlighter pens has become our favourite souvenir of the trip! We never had any dramas in Lima but it seems from the other reviews that if you do, Francis will sort it out for you - that level of personal help in a hostel environment is virtually unheard of and deserves plaudits - keep it up Francis!

We originally wanted to stay near Kennedy Park in Miraflores, but were interested by all the reviews here saying how helpful the owner is. Everyone is right - the owner Francis is so helpful, wants you to make the best of your time in this huge city and will give you a map and a full briefing when you arrive. We booked in advance through Hostelworld and after a long overnight bus journey we were able to get into our room at 7am - even more surprising we were straightaway offered coffee, bread and jam - a nice touch. We picked a room at the back which was exceptionally quiet. The furnishings in the room were a little old, but very clean and there was always hot water. The hostel is near to a number of fast food outlets, a couple of nice sandwich and icecream shops, a huge supermarket, laundy and even a cinema. At 8pm we were all offered free Pisco sours - excellent! Recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front might be noisy from the busy road, try and get one at the back.

Albergue House is well located but on a busy and noisy street. Make sure to ask for a room in the back! The rooms are old but spacious and very clean; the bathrooms are private but VERY small, but again clean, which is most important, with plenty of hot water. There is free WiFi (good connection) and a simple bread, butter, and jam breakfast. The staff is very friendly and helpful - especially the owner, Francis, who helped us book some bus tickets after several agencies told us they were sold out. At 8pm he has happy hour and offers Pisco sours to all guests for free! Great service! All in all we would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the back away from the street noise.

I went there as a friend of mine booked this place online. I was shoked. It is an old house, very dark. Scarry stares in case of earthequake (which happens often in Peru) you will never be able to go out. At the begining was ok, they welcomed my friend and gave us the key to the room. I did not like it at all as it was way too old and witout enough light (i mean the smallest window i have ever seen). I cant lie that there was a nice tv (dont know about the cable as i wasnt there all night), dvd and mini bar. You can barely enter the bathroom.... Promice for a welkoming drink.... forget about it even the owner tells it to milion times that nobody else gives you welcome drink do not beleive him cos he will not give it to you neighter.
I live in Lima and there are many hostals that you can stay for half price and much better rooms.
My friend decided it is ok as it is only for one night. so we went out.
For her second stay she cancelled the reservation as it wasnt really nice place... surprise... they wanted to charge her for that night.
for the third night at the hotel my friend decided to return as they were about the charge her anyway no matter she cancel the reservation.
I went to speak with the owner and from all the told me I have to be glad he is giving a place to stay for my friend like he does us a favor. Come on this is not a favor cos ppl pay for the stay. After long fight he inviter us pisco sower.. better dont try it or dont ask it....
Another thing- if you want to use you credit card they charge you 10% in addition.

This place costs 1/3 of the price that they ask you to pay
I do not recommend it at all

We stayed at the Miraflores House for three nights, 2 more than we had planned. The hostel has great rooms, a splendid common area with lots of stuff to do (instruments, tons of DVD´s, TV, books, fast internet), but most of all a great owner who know everything about Lima and Peru in general. Francis was of great help to us when we were planning our further travels in Peru, making phonecalls for us and giving tips about how to spend our time.
The hostel has clean rooms (with television and dvd-player), clean sanitary and good staff. The girls on Francis´ staff didn´t speak English very good but they were learning, and Francis speaks excellent English. The hostel is relatively quiet, and the location is very good (near to everything you would need). Breakfast is included but a bit plain. Overall good value.

Room Tip: Third floor, first room on the left is great.

On arriving at Miraflores House at the beginning of our holiday my friend and I were very stressed, my rucksack had been left in amsterdam and we had spent 2hrs in the airport filling in paperwork and my friends passport was missing. Francis arrived to reception and was amazing. Francis called the airport and the taxi rank (we had arranged through francis from the airport). After we offered a reward the passport was returned within an hour. My bag was not so lucky...it arrived 2 days later, francis called the airport and took me there to collect it which was about 45 mins away, on arriving at the airport we were told that KLM was closed so I was very upset but francis was lovely and on returning to the hostel my bag was there. The rooms were clean, francis was always on hand to help or offer tips on where to go and what to see, we stayed here on our last night before flying home and it was the best end to a fab holiday. I would definately recommend this hostel, it's a fab place to meet people and to share and learn about different things to see and do. Francis definately makes this hostel a brilliant place.
