Are you a health conscious traveler? Well, fear not- psychonaut. Though Iquitos is an unapologetic minefield of culinary disasters (MSG or Fluoride laced salt anyone?), the "Dawn on the Amazon Cafe" is a verified "safe zone". Owner Bill Grimes (Dawn on the Amazon tours), has gone to a heck of a lot of trouble to bring you the best quality food possible. I can personally vouch that he has really taken himself to task when it comes to having an open mind and constantly striving to improve the food. As example of this, try asking for "Brown Rice" anywhere else in Iquitos, or Peru for that matter. What will likely happen is the waitress will say "Oh you betcha!" then fry it up "extra good" and then say.. ."hey look... it's brown now" . Bill allows no MSG in the food (Allino Moto, they call it) , triple washes all veggies and even went to the trouble to import exotic (and expensive) red "Maras"salt from the Andes because he figured that his clients aught not to have to poison themselves with "fluoride" just to get some lunch. Anyway, the food is not only safe to eat here, it's tasty too, try the steamed Dorado, or "Christmas Quinoa" !

Dear MarkSaltBoy,from Seattle, Your excellent review of Dawn on the Amazon Cafe, from one of the foodie capitals of the world, is a great honor. You are right, we never use MSG. We do serve brown rice and we only use ancient unpolluted sea salt with no fluoride, and we use purified water for everything. We continue to go "to a heck of a lot of trouble to bring you the best quality food possible."
