My husband Patrick and I spent eight wonderful days in the Otorongo Lodge in July 2008. Anthony, an American from upstate NY, and his Peruvian wife Evy, were great hosts and amazing naturalists. Evy is a first rate bird-watching guide who has worked with many professional birders. Anthony loves everything that moves, slithers or swims, and can tell you its name in English, Latin, and Yagua (the local lingo). He is also an avid angler and he took us to some beautiful fishing spots. We caught many interesting looking species, several of which we ate for lunch. We didn't catch the illusive "Tucunare" (peacock bass) but we sure had a great time trying! The rooms in the lodge were clean and comfortable and creature free. The food was delicious! Fresh fruit juices from the lodge's seemingly endless variety of tropical fruit trees were served with every meal. The hammock room was a great way to relax after a morning of exploring and/or fishing and a filling lunch of freshly harvested fruits and vegetables served with rice and beans and the catch of the day. The sunsets were amazing! Every afternoon we would watch the macaws fly over us on their way to roost for the night. It was a once in a lifetime magical vacation, and I would reccommend it to any nature lover!
