A really friendly, excellent hostel. Set around a pretty courtyard, rooms are basic but very clean, and the price includes breakfast - we paid 35 soles each for a twin room, which is about £7, in peak season.
But the best thing about Hostal Suecia is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff - although most of them speak little English, they were very patient with our poor Spanish, and very helpful indeed with everything we needed, including even waiting up until 10pm (by which time the security guard would normally be on the door) to welcome us back from the Inca Trail, and allow us to get our backpacks out of the luggage deposit.
Very highly recommended.

“Great stay at Suecia 1”

My wife and I stayed one night at Suecia 1 (332 Calle Suecia - phone: 23-3282) in Cusco and we we're very happy with the quality received for the price - really a great value at S. 35 (about $12) for two people. The hostel is in an excellent location just off Plaza de Armas, convenient to sights and restaurants (I recommend Mystique for its inventive, "noveau-Andean" menu). The rooms and bathrooms were exceptionally clean, and situated around a charming interior courtyard.
The staff was wonderful! Claudia was so warm and very helpful with suggestions for making the most of our short time in Cusco. We came back sunburned from our adventures, and she prepared a soothing salve from aloe plants to ease the pain. Should we ever find ourselve back in Cusco we know where to stay!
