“Beautiful, comfortable home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

We stayed at the Garden house for 2 nights before doing the Inca Trail and then one night on return. All of the things the previous people have said are true. The gardens are lovely, the rooms are large and comfortable. But the thing that really makes the Garden House so lovely is that it feels like home. It's a feeling you can't fake. In fact, it has been sisters Ceci and Doris' home for many years. They are extremely gracious and knowledgeable hosts and are at the same time careful not to be intrusive. Not only was our room (really more of a suite) comfortable and beautifully appointed, but we felt comfortable in the whole place and sat in the sitting room to read and enjoy the decor several times.

Because we had a limited time to sight-see, we were grateful for Ceci's suggestions of what to see and what to miss. She took our specific interests into account and gave us a map with suggestions marked on it. We went to as many of those as we could and they were spot on. Although we never used the cell phone she gave us, it was a comfort to have it. They also called taxis for us whenever we wanted to go out with only 10 minute's notice.

The Garden house is about 15 minutes from downtown by taxi. If you want to be in the heart of things, this isn't the place. But the trip isn't bad at all and the quiet and comfort are well worth it. Especially if you're doing a difficult trek, it's really nice to have a place to come "home" to.

Room Tip: As far as I could tell, all the rooms were great. The location was quiet and lovely.

Rarely do I find a place like this anywhere in the world. Situated about 20 min from Cusco city square, this beautiful house, situated amongst peaceful gardens, was an absolute pleasure and blessing for our visit to the region to hike the Inca Trail.

Doris and Ceci, your hosts, are unbeleiveably kind and warm. They will literally do anything to help you, from making coca tea, to giving you an oxygen tank to help acclimate to the altitude.

Your room is HUGE, well appointed, and very clean. Not to mention it is your room, for example, we stayed two nights to acclimate and then one night after the 4 day hike, they let us leave all of our items in the house that we didn't need. That was so helpful.

They serve great breakfast every day and will sit and tell you all you ever wanted to know about Peru and the region. I learned so much from them that you would never get at a tourist hotel.

The tour operators will tell you it is out of the way, blah blah blah, don't listen to them, it is a simple and cheap cab ride to and from the city center. Oh, and by the way, Ceci and Doris always arrange safe transportation for you and give you a local cell phone to call them when you need a ride home.

And, to no surprise, after returning late at night from a tough 4 day trek of the Inca Trail, Doris and Ceci had cooked us empanadas and a bowl of soup to make sure we had dinner.

This is a first class experience for budget pricing. I very much look forward to returning to the Garden House one day.

We went to Cuzco 1 week ago. We stay at Garden house for 1 night then ahead MP for 1 night. after we came back to Cuzco for anther night. Doris n Ceci are so nice n helpful. They lent us self ph make sure we r safe. And we can keep our things in the room without charge for a day when we went to MP. They even provide us very early BF. Their driver also very good. We booked the standard room but surprise us when we checked in. It is more than a ensuite. Better than 5 start. They provide everything more than you need. They also can organise the MP tour for you. There are few tips for Cuzco n MP : 1) Cuzco City separated 2 side, the tourists area and the local people area. When you go to the local area have to be very careful. Don't go at night. But the tourist area are safe with a lot of police around. 2) MP is a great town. Have to there 1 or 2 days. Safe. Clean. Cosy . Their are no car no taxi in the town. All walking distant. Many shops Restaurants Bars around the little street. And the hot spring is nice. Great peoples great view.

I can't recommend this place enough.

Ceci and Doris made us feel welcome as soon as we walked in the door. The genuine warmth of these two is something I haven't encountered anywhere else in my eight months in South America.

Ceci had some great recommendations. Trekking companies and the main tourist spots. But what was awesome was the recommended museums and temporary art exhibitions and eateries that weren't in guidebooks or tripadvisor, but that she knew as a local with a keen interest in culture and ensuring you make the most out of your stay in Cusco.

We saw a local photography exhibition by a Cuscanian photographer who captured images of indigenous inhabitants around Cusco from 1920-1950, which was by far one of our highlights and of which we wouldn't have known had Ceci not informed us.

What makes this place really special is the people. Insightful, thoughtful, knowledgeable and so generous.

Both my father and I were ill for a time with the altitude, and Ceci couldn't have been more attentive or concerned. She made coca tea, fixed us lunch at no cost and ensured we were okay.

Wifi, hot, strong showers, gorgeous comfy beds, lovely garden views, friendly staff, laundry service... Ceci even gave us a mobile phone to have for the duration of our stay at Garden House for emergencies and to call Garden House to order us a cab, should we need one whilst we are in town to return to the hotel (cabs can be either a bit dodgy safety-wise or money-wise in such a touristy town).

This place, in itself, was definitely a highlight of my trip.

Thank you so much for a truly awesome stay.

My wife and I stayed at the Garden House for 5 nights, 3 before and 2 nights after our trip to Machu Picchu. It is hard to believe that this place could be as great as it is based on the price, but it is truly a gem in Cusco and we highly recommend it while there. Great breakfast, large rooms, beautiful gardens, and the sweetest and kindest ladies that you will ever have a chance to meet! DO NOT HESITATE, make the reservations!!

We decided to bypass the four and five star hotels in Cusco for a more local experience and The Garden House surpassed all of our expectations. Ceci and Doris were wonderful hosts, arranging pick up at the airport, pre-programmed cell phone for taxi service from the historic downtown and to Poroy station for our trip to Machu Picchu, as well as a delicious breakfast (included) and great wine and conversation. We strongly recommend The Garden House and hope to someday return.

We loved our stay at the Garden House - the property is gorgeous both inside and out. Doris' garden is superb and the rooms spacious and well equipped. Breakfast was delicious but best of all both Ceci and Doris are delightful. As the reviews say they welcome you into their home with a warmth and generosity that is far beyond what you expect or ever get close to with the best Bed & Breakfasts around the world. Little touches like organising taxis and supplying a phone to call them for anything. Plus they have menus for the top half dozen restaurants so we could choose which one appealed for them to book for us. All these extras made for the most relaxing few days we have had in SA. No stress, no drama and a perfect place to return to each day. Thank you so much Doris and Ceci!
