“A Relaxing Alternative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

Staying at the Garden House is like staying in the comfortable home of your best friends, as opposed to an impersonal hotel.

The owners Ceci and Doris are super super nice. They are very helpful and knowledgeable about what do to in and around Cusco - from restaurants to sightseeing. The house and its grounds are very comfortable and relaxing and the breakfasts were great.

The only possible objection one might have is the distance to the plaza, but it is an inexpensive 15-minute cab ride, and your hostesses will give you a cellphone so that you can call to have them arrange a car to bring you back.

Our stay at the Garden House with Ceci and Doris was one of the highlights of an extremely memorable trip.

Two of my friends and I decided to go on a Peruvian excursion this summer. We started with our first two days in Pisac, and then headed to Cusco for our two days prior to backpacking the Inca Trail. We stayed at the Garden House before heading to Machu Picchu. We had such an incredible experience at the Garden House and would definitely stay here again without any question.

The family was SO incredibly hospitable. They all spoke excellent English, which was very helpful. We arrived about four hours later than what we initially told Doris; however, she warmly welcomed us despite the inconvenience. Anytime we needed to go somewhere, she would call us a cab, which was a nice service.

I guess we looked hungry when we arrived the first day (which we were), so Doris made us some excellent cheese and avocado sandwiches, something which was so generous, and delicious, but definitely not expected. We really appreciated the gesture.

The Garden House is located a few miles outside of central Cusco, but we realized after being around Cusco, that this was the perfect distance. The hotel was so peaceful and beautiful. The gardens were exquisite and it is evident the love which went into the grounds. We spent a good amount of time in outdoor courtyard in the middle of the house, very soothing. Breakfast in the morning was incredible (fresh eggs, juice, milk, coffee, fruit, cereal, etc).

The morning of the Inca Trail, we had to leave the Garden House at 3:45a. We told Doris, we would be happy to see ourselves out in the morning, and that she could sleep in; however, she kindly woke up, said her goodbyes and even made us coffee and toast in the morning for our trip. She has such a kind and genuine heart. Doris also provided us with a cell phone to call the Garden House for directions to get back to the hotel, and also to serve as a safety measure to call her if we reached any troubles. Such a great idea.

Unfortunately, with our early departure on our last night/morning at the Garden House, one of us forgot some of our items at the Garden House. We received an email stating that we had forgotten some of our belongings. This obviously caused some stress, but we were pleasantly surprised to find our items safely packaged (and sealed), and waiting for us when we arrived for our backpacking trip. We were so exhausted by the time we arrived back in Cusco, and to find all of our belongings waiting for us was such a pleasant surprise and definitely unexpected. Thank you so much!!!! We highly recommend this bed and breakfast, and would choose to stay here again if the occasion should arise again!

Staying here was definitely a great decision being first timers to Cuzco. Ceci and Doris are wonderful hosts and very warm people. Ceci speaks excellent english so we never had a problem with communication. They provided us with a cell phone (with their number in it) that we could keep for the duration of our trip in case of an emergency or just to call for a taxi. They also had oxygen we could use if we needed it to deal with the altitude. The room we stayed in was very big, and had great views of their gardens through the windows. Although the hotel is in an urban area, behind its gates it is surrounded by gardens and feels very open and safe. We went to Cuzco to see Machu Picchu and the city, and Ceci and Doris had almost everything planned out for us. They offer a great package for a day trip to see Machu Picchu, complete with taxi, train and bus tickets (there and back) and a guided tour in english (or spanish if you prefer). They also arranged for us to take an affordable private tour of the Sacred Valley, where we got to see Ollantaytambo, the weaving town of Chinchero, some of the ruins, a few of the markets, and the animal sanctuary. A delicious breakfast was also included in the morning. Ceci and Doris made us feel very much at home at the Garden House, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Cuzco - especially people traveling there for the first time.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights after our Inca Trek. It is a little outside of Cusco's main square, but we are only talking a 10-15min cab ride. Ceci and Doris arranged taxis for us and provided us a cell phone programmed with their number. When we wanted to return, we called them and they sent a secure cab for us at an arranged rate (10 soles).

Our room was massive and had beautiful vies of the garden. The place feels like a home so you instantly feel relaxed and 'at home' while you are there. You are a part of the family. Breakfast is great and they are more than happy to recommend places to eat in town, somewhere to get a massage etc etc. Ceci & Doris are more than accommodating, they are simply lovely.

We were told by a couple of locals that we would be 25/30mins away from town, but it is simply untrue. It was our honeymoon while we were there and they gave us a wonderful bottle wine as a congratulations. We also had an early flight out of Cusco, but they were up to cook us breakfast anyway.

We loved this place and would happily return!

Room Tip: All rooms will be fine.

My family stayed here when visiting Cusco and it was wonderful! The house is beautiful and Ceci and Doris are amazing! We had a very early flight the morning we left, and they still got up early and made us breakfast to see us off.

My husband and I stayed for two nights at this lovely hotel. It is a little outside of Cusco proper, but a quick (15 minute) taxi ride takes you to the main plaza. Ceci and Doris arranged for taxis for us and even gave us a cell phone programmed with their number. When we wanted to return, we called them and they sent a cab for us!

Our room was really a suite, and we were greeted with warmth and coca tea (to help with the altitude). We were fed extremely well with a lovely breakfast, and when we returned late from Machu Picchu Doris sent delicious empanadas to our room. The gardens are lovely, and Doris's beautiful roses also adorn many locations in Cusco. They truly went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.

FYI, at the airport someone at an "information" desk tried to tell us that we would be forty-five minutes from town and three hours from the train! This was all untrue--they were trying to get us to move to another hotel that clearly pays them to do this. They also charged us 50 soles for a cab ride that should have been 10! So beware of the cab drivers (true all over Peru I believe.)

We loved this place and would happily return!

Room Tip: The hotel is quiet and peaceful on all sides.

We loved our two night stay at the Garden House with Ceci and Doris. Our room was
clean, quiet with a nice view of their amazing garden. It is a quick cab ride from the main
plaza but is was nice to be away from the busy city to relax. It was my birthday when we
were there and our hosts kindly sang Happy Birthday and brought me a delicious piece of
cake with a candle. I thought this was very thoughtful and it made my day. It felt like staying
with family as we were so well looked after.
