My friends and I (6 of us) stayed at Amaru II before and after the Inca Trail hike. If you were to go to Cusco and want some recommendations on lodging, I would certainly recommend this place. The staff were amazing, well spoken (english and spanish), helpful. They help you arrange local city tours and the great thing about this place is if you are staying for a longer period with say a hike inbetween lodging, they let you store your luggage with tags and also don't charge you for the boarding until the last day you check out.
The breakfast starts at 5:30am and is very good. It comes with eggs (any style you want), bread, coffee/hot chocolate, orange juice, fruit and yogurt. If you need anything extra, pay a few extra soles and they are happy to give it to you. Make sure you get the tokens from the front desk before grabbing your breakfast. It's their way of keeping tabs.
IF you were going to stay here, there is an amazing vegan restaurant called Green Point just steps away. Make sure you try that restaurant.
