“Very good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2014

We did not actually book this hotel, but were moved from another hotel nearby that was overbooked. It was quite cold in Cusco and this place had the best heating and plenty of hot water. It was very clean, the bathroom was sterile and really nice. Breakfast a bit disappointing. Excellent location, short walk from the main plaza. Lovely fruit market opposite the hotel.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for three nights, two before our trek to Machu Picchu and one afterward. The staff were very helpful, arranging for our airport pickup, calling cabs, giving us directions, and allowing us to store our large bags while we were trekking. Breakfast was delicious. It was made to order and served early enough that we were able to enjoy it before our early morning flight. The view from our rooms and the balcony outside them was breath taking! It does get cold in Cuzco at night, and the heaters make the air extremely dry, so I would recommend packing warm pyjamas to sleep in.

I was really impressed by the staff at Amaru 2, so friendly and helpful beyond expectation. The accommodation itself is super too. We stayed here on two occasions, on our first and last nights in Cusco. They have a free pickup shuttle from the airport and on leaving they got us a taxi for 15 soles (about 20 - 30 minutes to the airport depending on your driver and traffic)
This was one of the few places that had hot water in the bathroom sink (cold only seems the standard elsewhere) and the only place that had proper heating radiators in the rooms. Nice and toasty and you can dry some socks and smalls too.
We liked the quiet area, slightly up from town but not too far from the main square and there's nice eating and shopping very close at hand. Try the market in the top square.
24/7 cocoa leaf tea (altitude really does get to you) and oxygen available at reception. Good breakfast.
Two small negatives; the Wifi does not extend to the rooms and a very noisy toilet flush.
My preference is room 204 that does not border onto other rooms and has great views over the city.
I would highly recommend staying here, no brainer really!

This place is great, don't think twice about it!
Location, views, staff, all perfect. I also have stayed in Amaru I, the same quality and standard, had a great time and felt at home in this beautiful Inca Town.

Stayed here during our week in Peru, due to a mix-up at the other Amaru location. By far, this was the better accommodation! Rooms were comfortable and roomy, with large bathrooms. Views of the city are spectacular. Hotel staff was phenomenal - most spoke very passable English, and they all went out of their way to help us with our every need. We even stayed an extra night due their excellent service! Price is great, breakfast is daily, and no request is too large for them - can't lose!

There was 4 adults traveling together and we all loved this place ! A nice comfy bed, GREAT STAFF !!!, great neighborhood, simple breakfast, and just over all good time. We were only supposed to stay here 2 nights but ended up booking an extra because we wanted another day of solid rest....

We stayed here 3 nights then left for the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu and returned again for a night. Our first room on the second floor was tiny. We couldn't find a place to have our two carry-on suitcases open. The bathroom was up some steep stairs inside our room and was also miniscule. The room on our final night was the exact opposite. It was around the inner courtyard on the first floor and was perfect. A walk-in closet, space to move, nice bathroom. Some pretty outside sitting places in this old colonial building, looking out over red-tiled roofs onto cathedral towers. And it is a terrific location on one of Cusco's tiny cobbled lanes, 8 mins from the Plaza das Armas. Nice and quiet. Staff was generally helpful but it did feel like perhaps they'd been taken advantage of in past or needed to watch ever soles because they monitored breakfast very closely (no buffet here), same rather limited choice every day. Heaters were $3 extra a night. Cusco was damp during our stay, and we got caught in a torrential hail/rain thunderstorm. Even with the little heater it took two days to dry things out. Still, very good value and staff was great about keeping one of our suitcases during our days away.
