“Closest hostel close to the railways”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2009

I decided to walked along the railways to arrive to Aguas Calientes, in my way to Machupicchu. There were 10 long km under the rain, so when i finally saw the end of the path, the only thing i wanted was a hot shower and dry clothes.

Hostel Los Caminantes was the first place i saw on my left while walking. I didn't think it twice: i went in.
The people ar the reception where really friendly and they gave me a god discount for 2 nights.

The structure of the place is confusing (it has stairs everywhere, but i found my way in the end). They let you hang your clothes on a long line so you can do some laundry there.
Hot shower all day but really noisy when it rains (i hardly sleep).

Good place for backpackers

I ended up making reservations at this place when I got scared everything would fill up from Cusco a few days before we arrived and if I hadn't had a reservation I would have left.

The location is just off the main drive along the train tracks which makes for a very noisy room. Our first room smelled very strongly of mold so we changed to another room that was a bit better.

The night was loud as the hotel is open air and was hard to get to bed early. If you want to catch the first bus up to Machu Picchu at 5:30 am, you might value sleep more than the cheap price at this place. I think we payed 20 soles each.

Bathroom facilities were pretty decent and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Aguas Calientes is a bain on existence but a necesary evil when you want to spend a full day or more at Machu Picchu, which you absolutely should.

We were looking for an inexpensive way to spend the night in the town of Machu Picchu, next to the famous ruins. We heard of a hotel called Hostal Los Caminantes located close to the train station, and right next to the center of town. A friendly staff and proprietor showed us to our clean rooms with a view of the nearby hills. The beds were comfortable, and the showers had plentiful hot water. The staff was very accomodating to all of our needs. Our double room cost less than 30 soles per night.

We highly recommend this hotel for anybody seeking inexpensive lodging in Machu Picchu. We awoke refreshed the following morning and had an excellent experience in the ruins.

This place was alright for 20 soles per person. Conveniently located near the path to Putucusi and to Machu Picchu, as well as the train back to Ollantaytambo/Cuzco. This is also an inconvenient when train stop on the tracks with its noisy motor and sounding its horn.

It has comfortable beds and hot water if you don't put the pressure too high (works with only one tap: open it more and the water goes colder). It's definitely not the newest or classiest place, but for one night in the tourist-flooded Aguas Calientes and at that pricxe, it does the job.

I wouldn't particularly go back, given the choice.
