You can appreciate old mines that continue to exploit comes naturally. International Chefs buy its salt for gourmet cousine.

“A Community Industry”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

Many pools containing salt water at different stages of evaporation. The color varies according to the weather when the pools were filled. The community still maintains the industry. Salt is available for sale in different colors and consistency. There is a path to walk along the side of the pools as well as see the water path from the salt water spring that feeds the pools.

“salt as far as you can see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

This was neat to see, and neat to see how because this land was under water so many years ago they can now mine salt. Seeing the many pools was pretty but also a great for learning how they do it and have for years. A salt stream from the mountain feeds this area and they mine it. Ladies in dresses are out working the mines was neat to seem amazing that they dress up for this kind of labor. It's in the middle of the mountains, we did a hike down to "town" where our bus picked us up, easy hike except it was a narrow pathway at times (and not sure I'd want to hike up, that would be strenuous). Also near the bottom of the pools is the shed where they take the harvested salt to, those bags are big and heavy. Biggest complaint I had was that the gift shops where they sold the salt were at the top so I would have to buy before I saw it, although if you didn't hike down I guess not a problem. The bus ride in was a bit white knuckled, if you don't like steep cliffs sit inside and don't look out. Bathrooms were not so special; bring your own TP and handwipes (as many tourist palces in Peru).

“Salt mines”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Was captivating seeing a running salt mine, and seeing the multiple pools of salt. The mines are surrounded by a high mountain region, and the view looking down into the mines is brilliant. The sun was shining brightly and the whole place turned shining white, making the mines look even more incredible.
