“Best to walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

This is a unique tourist attraction - it's a bit pricey to get to, and entrance is S7 by taxi (the only way if you don't walk), but if you're fairly fit, you can get a moto taxi for around S1.5 to the bridge about 10 minutes from Urubamba town, and walk about 40 minutes up to the salt flats, without having to pay entrance fees. Salineras is not included in the tourist ticket that you may get from Cusco - so by car you would have to pay separately. If you just want to see Salineras, and are not bothered/don't want to pay for Moray (which is normally toured simultaneously), I would recommend this route to save money.

To get to Moray, you can walk another 1.5-2 hours uphill to Maras and get a return taxi for around S25...but there's not a lot to see in Maras town, so it might be better to try and get a taxi from Salineras itself...some taxi drivers are rather misleading, saying that there aren't any taxis to Moray from Salineras, but that is definitely not the case. Although, if you're planning to see Moray and Salineras, it may be better to get a bus from Urubamba to Maras, and then get a return taxi to Moray before walking from Moras to Salineras downhill instead of up.

“AMAZING”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

You are not waiting to see this after being driving in a land road. The walk from the salt mines to the Valley and crossing the river is a great moment. Suggest you to do this and to have your lunch in the valley.

“Scenic and Attractive Geometric Pattern From Afar”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

I saw the geometric patterns form the road and did nto associate them with salt beds untilw e got closer to it. The walk towards them saw steep and if it rained, it would have been slippery. On the way down there, we passed by numerous little souvenir shops that had colorful woven things as well as bags of grain salt, roasted corn ,dried banana chips. and other snacks. Some were generous with samples.
When salt was a precious commodity, the residents of this area had enjoyed a higher standard of living as they made lots of money selling salt to different regions.

“extraterrestrial place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

what we did to get here was to take a taxi from Urubamba to Moray, Salinas and then to Cuzco for 90 soles.

the views are amazing from the road leading to the Salinas. when you get to the place it is even more unearthly. worth visiting for something different in the Sacred Valley.

“Not to be missed”

We hiked the trail from Urubamba to the Salinas. Spectacular! Easy walk with one 10 minute climb. The views are mind boggling.
