“Tanda Papa Boutique Hotel - Smashing with a Beautiful View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2014

Stayed 3 nights at Tanda Papa Boutique Hotel in Cusco. This small hotel is based in the trendy San Blas district which is bursting with cafés, local shops (offering more than the tourist tat) and is well positioned for the main square. Hotel had everything you could ask for, very clean and comfortable, fantastic owners and a great view from the breakfast room over the city. Breakfast was included and had all you could ask for. Great hotel to relax and unwind in the beautiful city of Cusco!

Tandapata was a great hotel! Very new and well furnished. We stayed in a double room, with two twin beds. The bathroom was the cleanest we had on our whole trip through Peru. While not a big deal, it did make a difference. The views from the hotel are amazing. you can see much of Cusco from there, and they have a great roof deck to look out on. The staff was incredible. The lady at the front desk really helped us out, even with my terrible spanish. They have luggage storage which we took advantage of for a day, and that was even AFTER we checked out. It's a very quiet hotel and the location is great near Plaza de San Blas. The breakfast is simple, just right to start the day, and when you arrive, they offer you cocoa leaf tea, which is delicious.

I would definitely recommend staying here. It's a nice place to relax after hiking around Cusco all day.

There is so many great things about this hotel. The location is awesome! Tanda Pata St. is right along the top of San Blas Plaza -- the artsy, bohemian enclave of Cuzco. There are lots of art stores around the plaza. On Tanda Pata itself there are a number of restaurants & bars. The atmosphere is really chilled and it's nice to be a bit away from the really heavily touristy area around Plaza de Armas. The hotel itself is very nice. From the entry, to lobby, to breakfast area, and rooms. We got a triple room for the first 3 nights we were in Cuzco and were given a room on the lower level. This was a really good location in the hotel as it's quiet. Unfortunately, after we came back from our Inca Trail trek we got a double room and were given a room on the upper level (immediately below the lobby level). This room was directly underneath the kitchen that the hotel use to prepare breakfast each morning so we would hear all the noise from people walking on the wood floors and scrapping chairs along the floor. Luckily, I brought eye mask and earplugs for such an occasion. The rooms were clean and beds very comfortable. Both rooms we had there was a portable radiator which helped a lot on chilly Andean nights. I wouldn't leave it on all the time though as it dries out the air even more than it already is dry. Also, we had some issues with the hot water. It seems that you can only get proper hot showers in the mornings and evenings. So, if you try to take a shower around 3-4pm, for instance, there is no hot water. At least it's not hot enough to shower in. Also, they had some water pressure issues in the last 2 days we were staying there but it's more likely that it was the municipal water pipes problem. We did manage to have a hot shower the morning we checked out. The hotel employees are very nice and helpful. The lady who's there most of the time speaks fairly good English, but the others who sit in for her some of the time don't really speak English. It would be good to learn a few simple Spanish phrases to assist your communication. My final (minor) complaint is that the breakfast was very simple and didn't vary much at all. After more than a week of staying there, we did get bored with the same breakfast every morning. All in all I felt that it was a reasonable price hotel for what we got. The location and quality overall was excellent. Bring an eye mask, ear plugs, and go eat breakfast at one of the many cafes nearby occasionally. Would really recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cuzco.

Room Tip: ask for a room on the lower level for less noise in the mornings

The hotel is new and furnished with taste. It is located in the San Blas neighborhood which is a very nice area full of nice shops and restaurants nearby.

The rooms are very clean (ours had even a huge terrace!) and decorated with a lovely design.
The breakfast area is full of light and comfortable.

Be aware that you can't get to the hotel by car, but it is only about 100m walking from Plazoleta San Blas.

I and my husband loved this place and the staff was friendly and available to hear any suggestion to improve.

Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 2 nights as a treat after going to Machu Picchu and thought we had stumbled on to a little gem! We loved it so much that we decided to stay another night! Good value for money, excellent hotel, very clean, good breakfast and the showers and toilets are divine. One of the best showers I've had!
Would love to stay here again.

Stayed here for several nights over two weeks and various hikes and excursions. Had scrambled to find a place after Hotel Tikawasi clearly overbooked and then lied to us about some work being done not able to honour our reservation.
Tanda Pata became a bit of home away from home. Very clean, great helpful staff, although English was lacking. Even brought us a heater without asking. Would stay here again without any question. Great location.
Breakfast could have been better, but was not bad.
