“A definite recommendation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2014

I recently stayed at this bed and breakfast for four days. I was very satisfied with the owner's pleasant customer service and personable experience. The owner, Itala, picked us up from the airport and took us to her place. Once we arrived to the B&B, we got a beautiful, spacious, and very clean room. Itala provided towels and extra covers for the cold weather as well. The breakfast was delicious and kept us going till dinner. Her assistant, Roberto kept our room very clean and also helped Itala with breakfast. Itala's close attention to details was beyond excellent. Itala walked us through any questions regarding the city and its culture. She even got out of her way to show us a bit of the city and provided great recommendations of places to eat and to see. She also recommended a great driver (Jose) who took us to Ollantaytambo for the train to Machu Picchu and back to Cusco. Due to his great service, we also hired him to take us to Moray, Salineras and Chincheros for a half a day personal tour. By the way, if you travel to Cusco for certain time of the year were there are a lot of festivities going on expect to deal with some noise throughout the day and night. However, it had nothing to do with the B&B. It was a pleasant stay!

This guest house is beautifully designed. We particularly liked the top-notch showers (great water pressure and hot water) and comfy beds. The rooms are spacious and very clean. Breakfast was good. We did have a few bumps during our stay here but the owners rectified things even from afar. It seems like Maison Foraleza is going through some growing pains and trying to work out their management. The owners are back in Switzerland and there was confusion about a few things with the woman who was running it when we were there. BUT, that said, Itala was very helpful on the phone and on our departure day she even sent an English speaking manager to help sort everything (some of the confusion was a result of miscommunication from us not speaking Spanish and the temporary caretaker not speaking English). This was handled very professionally in the end and we were happy to leave on a good note. Thank you!

This was the best B&B we stayed during our travels in South America. The room was modern and spacious, and the house has a beautiful family feel. The bathroom and shower were also new and had consistent hot water. Breakfast was lovely, with fresh bread, cheese, avocado, fruits and jam. The hosts, Itala and Jean Claude have a wealth of knowledge of the area and helped us with our trip planning. Itala also runs her own tours, including hikes around Cusco and further. We initially had one night booked here, but after that night decided to extend our stay at this wonderful B&B and explore more of Cusco.

Everyone going to Peru need to visit Macchu Picchu and pass through Cuzco. I travel quite a lot, and Cusco was kind of scary to find a nice and decent place to stay couple of days to do all there is to do in and around Cuzco. In the maze of hundreds and hundreds of lodging, between 5 stars and backpackers, you can find in Maison Fortaleza an oasis of peace, rest and valuable advises from the owner Itala Stuckly. The Swiss and Peruvian couple make the perfect pair of knowning the need of the foreigners combine with the knowledgeable wisdom of all the year of service as a tour Guide of Itala. What a pleasure to finally visit the ruins and meet the heart of the Incas empire with her counsel. Maison Fortaleza is great healty food, comfortable bed, heating (very rare at the price) and hot water, great location and good advises. I hgave to give a perfect score! Good luck Itala!

Room Tip: They are all great!

Staying at the Maison Fortaleza is staying with a friend who grew up in Cusco. Itala Stucky, the owner is also a guide and can help you with your entire Peruvian trip. Our April 2013 stay was beyond expectations. Ita and her family are warm and fun. Her rooms are clean and new, but with the feel of yesteryear and a few blocks away from the main plaza, so it's very quiet and in a residential neighborhood. Breakfast was lovely and at whatever time we needed, including when we had to leave at 5 a.m. for a Machu Picchu trek. Ita speaks Spanish, Quechua, French and English. We felt as though we were well taken care of in her home. We highly recommend this small, intimate B&B if you want to feel as though you're living the life rather than just staying in a hotel.
