I am a veterinarian and my husband found this place online prior to our trip. Needless to say, I had to visit, and I was not disappointed. The sanctuary is full of beautiful and well taken care of animals that each have an interesting and often sad story about how they ended up there. Some of the animals here included pumas, macaw parrots, guanacos, vicunas, Andean condors, storks, and white tail deer. One of the staff members greeted us as soon as we arrived and proceeded to show us around the sanctuary. She took us inside the Andean Condor enclosure, which was absolutely incredible. These birds are huge and will fly right over your head while you are in the enclosure. It is unlike anything you'll experience in the US. The Condors hopped around us and acted curious while our guide explained to us how endangered they are and that they hope to soon start a breeding program at the facility. It costs nothing to visit the sanctuary but they do accept donations, which we gladly gave. This place is a little bit of a drive outside of Cusco but we easily got there by taxi and it was well worth it.
