“Wonderful place to stay - a real find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2008

Los Ninos is a fabulous, friendly & relaxed place to stay.
The hotel is delightfully picturesque designed around a central courtyard and fountain. The rooms are large, functional and spotlessly clean . Though they are quite basic and simple they do have private bathrooms and are excellent value for money. The on-site cafe serves delicious breakfasts and the staff are wonderful - a lot of them are former street kids helped by Los Ninos and its founder Jolanda. They are all extremely friendly, knowledgable and helpful. We had a very warm welcome here and were made to feel really at home.
The hotel's location is close to the town centre: the Plaza de Armas, just a short walk to lots of restaurants, bars, shops, travel agents etc. There are also quite a few restaurants and local convenience style shops nearby too. It is also on one of the flatter parts of Cusco (- not absolutely flat, this is Cusco after all!) but it isn't a hike to get to like some of the areas are such as San Blas.
We stayed here after our Inca Trail trip and didn't want to leave. Added to this the fact that the first place we stayed in Cusco was an awful dump it makes Ninos seems even more special!
I recommend it heartily and would stay there again in a shot, especially as you're helping a good cause by staying here too!

Initially i booked this hotel because of its good purpose in serving the local children and sponsoring their education, however, i have to admit i would like this hostel no matter what.
It is located 5-7 minutes walk from the Plaza de Armas in the small and quiet street. Because some of my hiking activities fell through due to the earthquake, i had to rearrange all my plans in the very last moment and despite the fact that Ninos was overbooked they still found room to accommodate me.
I stayed both in a shared and private bathroom rooms. Surprisingly i liked the shared bathroom better because rooms seemed to be bigger and nicer.
Hot water and heaters are in every room because it gets really cold at night.
And also, stuff was very friendly and helpful. I don't speak Spanish so it was comforting to see that they spoke very good English.

  • Liked — friendly stuff, hot water
  • Disliked — they failed to wake me up on every occasion

It was such a pleasure to stay at the Ninos hotel (#1)!! It is a simple hotel (**) but they've really put the effort where it counts - very clean, simple decor, excellent helpful staff, great breakfasts. And of course it makes you feel good to know the profits are going to a good cause.

The rooms are simple but have everything you need; comfortable beds, closet space, table and chairs, extra blankets and heater, clean bathroom with a shower with hot water and good water pressure.

Only negatives are that it's a bit noisy, mostly due to inconsiderate fellow travellers who don't realize that their voices echoes in a courtyard and that it makes a lot of noise to slam your hiking boots every step you take on a wooden balcony.

We spent 4 nights at this gem of a hostal....what a wonderful experience it was. We had a triple room for 3 of the 4 nights and a double plus single...all of the rooms were great. I loved the bathrooms with the beautiful wrought iron pedestal sinks. The staff was wonderful, the food was great....everything was immaculate and clean, clean, clean. Very cozy and comfortable. Thank you Ninos for such a wonderful experience and for all that you do.

Ninos Hotel 1 is a great place to stay. The rooms are basic, and tend to be a little on the cold side, but there are lots of warm blankets and a space heater was in the room. The water in the shower was consistently hot.

There's a little restaurant downstairs that had water for sale, good coca tea, and a pretty decent (and huge) breakfast. The front desk was helpful and we had no problem storing our bags when we left for Inca Trail/MP.

It was heartwarming to look at the pictures of the kids on the wall. One day we happened to be entering the front door at the same time some of the hotel staff was giving dinner to some small boys. This hotel really does fund a great cause, and you can see how your dollars really are going to help needy children around Cuzco.

Stay here! You'll like the hotel and you'll love the contribution you're making to the community you visit.

I really loved this little place. We stayed in Ninos II, but it seems to be practically the same as Ninos I. The staff are wonderful, despite my total lack of Spanish. The place is clean, comfortable and very welcoming. The rooms are well-decorated. It's a very pretty, cosy place and I loved the fact that it is such a good cause. We went to Puerto Maldonado for six days for a jungle excursion and we were able to leave our extra belongings behind at Ninos. We did that again when we left for the Inca trail. They were very accommodating and we had no problems with our baggage.

The negatives, and I really don't consider them that negative were: The lock on our door broke, locking us out for hours on our first night (when we were terribly jetlagged). It took the poor staff what seemed like many hours to fix it. I also found it was rather noisy, but that's just the area we were in, I suppose. Also, we put our laundry in to be cleaned and it took a few days to get it back.

Overall, great place, great staff, great location. It's definitely not a place if you want luxury, but if want something that is simple and clean and very pleasant (and helps out a charity) this is the place to go.
