We were here for 3 nights with OAT. Our room was rather small , overlooking the central courtyard. Adequate facilities, safe & hairdryer, only a double bed for 2 of us, so a bit cramped.
Our problem was that the front desk was being torn out and replaced, which involved a lot of hammering and drilling. OK, they have to do it sometime but shouldn't it all be over for the day at 6pm?? We had to be up early next day for the Macchu Picchu train etc,. so did not appreciate constant construction noises and builder's shouting until after 9.30 in the evening, despite phone calls requesting peace and quiet. The management were obviously more concerned with their project than with their guests' comfort.

This hotel might be conveniently centrally placed, but don't expect a good night's sleep. Its poor design, with windows on all floors opening up onto a covered central courtyard (which has stone floors and walls) means that every sound made in the hotel lobby, restaurant, TV room etc etc echo around to all the rooms above. Even if you close the windows and endure a hot and stuffy room you're not going to get much sleep: the hotel was full of guests when we were there, some not returning 'til late in the evening, whilst many others are up and leaving the hotel by 5AM (with the kitchen starting up at 4AM) for day trips to Machu Picchu etc. Double glazed windows and air-conditioning are much-needed in the rooms! Oh, and by the way, the service in the restaurant isn't good either, with our tour group being served different main courses as much as 20 minutes apart. Wouldn't be our choice of a place to stay or eat.

We had the pleasure of staying in the Don Carlos in Cusco, in Peru, my first reservation was the large free standing fan in the room. all the rooms look inwards to a central atrium, with no outside air, (What There is of it !!) 11400 feet above sea level...!!! it certainly gets very warm at night, what its like in the heat of summer, I hate to think. The Restaurant is nice with friendly service and real nice food....dont go wandering the streets.. eat in the hotel... .very tasty..and good value... very clean, but you need to request a Fan.

I am forever in search of the low cost high service 3/4 star hotel during my international vacations. I am not in love with the cost benefit of the luxury hotels. The Don Carlos Cusco is one of the better one's I have stayed. Cusco is such a nice city with so much to see, we did not need a fancy hotel. The service was great, the food very good and the rooms comfortable. We had a very nice comfortable bathroom (although our kids room's bathroom was a bit small for our taste). A great experience!
