We had friends that told us about Choquequirao and how remote it is. The Llama Wall was our attraction to this site. Once we decided to take the trek, then I used trip advisor to start looking for a tour guide company. I read through all the reviews and followed the threads deep enough to discover that it really does matter who you chose and how large the group was. Choquequirao is not for the faint of heart, it was really demanding both physically and mentally. I found Bioandean Expeditions in the reviews and decided to check them out. I contacted Rider via email and the reviews were correct, he responded immediately and was very accommodating. Rider is Bi-Lingual and speaks English very well.
I booked our tour with him and he posted it on the site Bioandean Expeditions site and let me know that if they got a couple more people on our trek our price would drop depending on the size of the group. It didn't matter to me because I was more interested in using a local company that paid it's people well and would provide us with a great experience. As it turns out, they were able to find another couple to join our trek and Bioandean Expeditions immediately refunded me the difference in price in US dollars prior to us leaving on the Trek.
What I liked the most about our trek and the booking process was there were no surprises. Everything happened exactly as it was described on the website and we were happy with the process. Bioandean Expeditions is very conveniently located right in the main Plaza De Armas in Cuzco. The guide met us at our hotel the night before we left to give us our duffle and sleeping bags. He reviewed the Trek, plans and details about what we were going to do and experience. The transaction/booking and transportation process was really simple and accurate. I would highly recommend Bioandean Expeditions to anyone considering them for any trek.
If you want to truly have a once in a lifetime experience trekking in the Andes with a major "prize" (Llama Wall) waiting for you at the end, then definitely research a trek to Choquequirao. Do the 5day/4 night, the 4 day is too much and it won't give you time to really appreciate what you'll see after such a demanding experience to get there. If you want to deal with a company that will do it right, honestly and with integrity, I suggest Bioandean Tours. We were on the Trek from April 13 thru April 17, 2013.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. We really did have a great experience with the trek and Bioandean Expeditions.
